#1 is just as important to us as #12.....
Whilst all the talk is about the imminent return of #12, I also cant wait for the return of a fit and injury free #1.
When Grammy has played this year he has been half fit at best and we have not had as near as much run and breaking the lines from him as last year
One of the reasons our forwards have struggled is that they haven't had a fit Grammy kicking the ball 60M+ over the zone to a 1 on 1 contest.
Whilst I also have a massive man-crush on #12 and think he is an absolute gun, his return to the team in a few weeks combined with a fit Grammy will make a huge difference to our team.
Add to that our midfielders are now (being forced) kicking goals we should have a good 2nd half of the year and finals to look forward to.
Go Saints!!
So far this year

also agree. he's a very important player to us. they'd want to make sure he's cherry ripe and not rush him back.

Nothin' against Gram, but our whole mindset has been turned over in the absence of Roo. The team as a whole has done well to be 7 & 3. I look forward to both returning for a cracking second half of the year

He is not even close to Roo in relation to importance. We can win the competition without Gram however we can't without Roo.
Gram on here is over-rated although he has turned into an above average player.
His disposal often let's him down and at times it is pot luck as to where the ball is going to finish after it has left his foot.
Roo makes poor kicks look good through amazing flexibility and skills. In essence he makes Gram look better because the mark was taken in the end.
Don't over-rate Gram by under-rating Roo.

I think Gram is super important, agree nowhere near Roo (but who is) however still very important.Saintsfan wrote:He is not even close to Roo in relation to importance. We can win the competition without Gram however we can't without Roo.

Thought he continued his form from the GF early this year until he was obviously in discomfort...I hope he comes back unhampered by injury.

Gram had 5 Inside 50s against Carlton, which is on par with the best in the game on a 'per game' basis.
We got walloped by 10 goals and our forwards were pathetic.

His absense has opened the door for other guys to have a crack, and luckily we have a better forward structure to kick to. Gwilt and Raph have been more inclined to run out of defense (Gwilt speared some nice passes into the F50, not sure if any of them stuck though), Monty ran rampant into the forwardline, which is what we want our midfielders to do. Peake could have also made an impact, had his disposal been better.saintspremiers wrote:Spot on!Milan Faletic wrote:12 minus 1 is 11 and he kicked 5 goals.
Joey played one of the best ever games by a St Kilda midfielder IMO.
Considering he was off for a spell with injury, imagine if he had been fully fit for the whole match.
Would've got 50 possies and kicked 7!
Amazing.
Incredible

we may not even get roo back this year... so if we cant win the flag without him we are 70% screwed at this point... and if he does come back this year may take him till next year to get any kind of form or confidence..
not to meantion how it will effect his kicking... it could make his shots worse for goal.....

While I don't believe Gram is as important as Riewoldt he is very important to our structure and a very under rated player (even by some on here it appears). He will make a big difference when he returns free of injury.
Always surprised no commentator ever mentions his absence.
I think when Rooey comes back - and I do believe it will be when, all the signals coming out of the club suggest it, he will fire up from day one. He's just that sort of player. Confidence certainly won't be an issue. Whether the tendon holds - who can say.

though nowhere near as good a game as #11 I recon he is gradually being less ostracized by the umps for the clapping fiasco, and getting a few obviously deserved free kicks now....and contributing well also!!
... just a thought??
A fit and firing Gram is just as important to our team as Riewoldt is, albeit for different reasons. Interestingly enough, the losses that we have had so far have been when Gram is either out of team or injured.
Don't underestimate the importance of any of our players to the team structure. They all have an important role to play.

Depends which Gram turns up , the one form the grand final or the one other weeks which has more turnovers than Bakers Delight.
Gram gives us run and carry on the outside which we lack and when he hits targets he is very very good. His disposal lets him down too manytimes for my liking ( much like H Shaw).
Has the ability maybe a mental things.
Hopefully the GF gram returns
