Another GT thread.

Wow.

Just getting a little bit creepy now.

The same people posting the same things, about the same guy, nearly 4 years down the track.

A guy that has nothing to do with the club. Nothing.

Wow.

Clearly you do as you are all over any GT thread. Relative perhaps?

I missed the team in the 60's except their last few years.

Thanks to having:
*the remains of the 97 GF team (Harvey etc)
*players gained from hiring Bight as coach (GTrain , etc)
*bottoming out when priority picks were brought in
*having the good fortune to have the Blues caught cheating so that we gained Goddard

GT was gifted the best St Kilda list since the 60's.(though to be fair when on the Board he was part of the hunting process to bring some elite players to the Club)..coming to a peak in the post Lions (awesome team) era when good but not great teams won the flags in the Swans and WCE.

Only ineptitude in coaching, list management and player conditioning prevented the Saints winning at least one flag in that period. All due to a guy that had his mate give him the job with both lie-ing at the time about how GT really got the job.

While GT lived out every boys dream of coaching his AFL club under false pretenses, we as a club wasted a golden opportunity by not hiring a "real" coach.

GT's current bagging of Milne again just reveals that GT could not coach and should never have been the coach.

Darcy's comments tonight on GT and Milne were bang on the money. GT comments reveal more about GT being a poor coach than Milne being a poor player.
Ross Lyon has been gifted a pretty damn good list too. Not many coaches get to step into a position with the core group entering their prime and a talented one at that.

After this thread, I'm looking forward to participating in the one where we have a go at the rain for being wet, winter for being cold, and old people for not being up with the iPad.

Seriously, like him or not, if you're a Saints supporter who evern peruses newspapers and the internet, and haven't figured out Grant Thomas in the media yet, you've got bigger problems than his thoughts on Milney.

GT will always give you a quote, will never pull his punches, and if there's a running theme in medialand, will never subscribe to it.

Generally, in a milestone game, the rule-of-thumb is a player gets a free ride with platitudes from anyone who wants to share the glow. Thomas gets asked, you can bet he's not going to give a platitude.

Which is what the GT story really was - it's not like he said anything we haven't all heard/read 1000 times before. The story was that Grant Thomas didn't follow the party line... and apparently that's back page news. This thread is why it's back page news.

Interesting when they showed Milnes stats from finals and interstate last night. GT said everone knows its a fact Milne plays badly away and in big games, then when he had the stats up in front of him he claims stats can be misleading. Milne was down from his regular games but not by that much.

Seeing GT try to maintain his dignity while not admitting that he had gone on perception not facts was priceless.

Loved it when they smirked when he referred to the G. Pod at Geelong and his old bulldog face getting even more down turned.

Still like the fact he comes out and says stuff without thinking, media commentary is so bland when everyone uses diplomacy. He is easy to dislike but he at least makes it interesting.

= GT is now a media whore. The Paris Hilton of the ex-coaches club.

He gets 'space' by attacks...like his comments about Pav.

You won't get any real analysis of the game.....he tried to be an "expert" commentator and was given the heave ho............which is why he is now confined to a TV Show with the 3 stooges.

When someone like Hutchy can have a whack at you for ill-timed comments then you know you have a problem.

Yes they got rid of him for special comments because he actually said what he thought unlike apparently others who apparently obey the party line.

all this ex GT stuff gives me the absolute ,,,,
and obviously many on here will never let it go

but for what it's worth and i don' know why i'm bothering to comment (except to back the little champ)....
to my old farts memory of GTs post game comments when questioned on Milney kicking that 11 goal bag went something like....
" yeah the little bloke went ok didn't he ..... but jeez we gunna have put up with him all week now !!

I thought at the time that's kind of funny , but when you think about it , if that's the best he could come up with as coach, and hindsight now tells me he had another agenda...the blokes a tool for mine and this current crap only confirms it!

and again for what it's worth I recon the TipRats contribution to this club far outweighs GTs player & coaching stats combined especially when you add to it his post employment litigations for mine!

so he can get nicked!!
