Got a standing ovation from the audience all the way during his highlight package before he appeared on stage and Sandy Roberts commented that he had never seen that.

Danny Frawley presented the award to Plugger and was totally overcome with emotion which was great.

Plugger's speech was typical Plugger, humble and straight forward and he was very good about thanking the unsung heroes of the club like the property steward, boot studder.

However, he was especially thankful to Graeme Gellie for persisting with him in his younger days and getting him from Ballarat to the VFL.

Was a fun night, nice to meet lots of forum people.

Summary from the Herald Sun

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/w ... 5896560057
"This is certainly very much a surprise. To see your name up alongside Ian Stewart, Darrel Baldock and Allan Jeans is a little bit overawing really.

"I'm not sure whether I really deserve to be here, to tell you the truth. It's a bit of a shock really, but I'm that honoured and proud and privileged, you name it. I'm just so humbled by the selection."

He also paid tribute to great friend Danny Frawley who introduced Plugger on stage. Frawley became so emotional he had to leave stage with tears.

He also paid homage to his wife, Vicki, who he said stuck by him and gave him four beautiful daughters.

he seems when i have seen him on tv a humble sort of fellow and to acknowledge those people shows what a geat man he is not full of himself like some players are

most of the speach here
http://www.smh.com.au/sport/legend-lock ... 10sog.html

Older and, by his own admission, maybe a little wiser, Lockett took the opportunity to speak openly with the supporters who worshipped him and grieved when he decided to move to Sydney. ''I think I made a career of doing and saying things I probably shouldn't have,'' Lockett told the audience at Crown.

''As time goes by and you can sit back and reflect a bit - and I try not to do too much of that - there are things I would change and things I would do differently, and things I said that, maybe if I had taken a few minutes really to think about them - thought about them - I would have done things a bit different. But look, that's happened and you can't look back.

''All you can do is get on with it and make the best of what you have got. It took a bit of getting used to [moving to Melbourne]. I spent a career of probably over-stepping the mark a little bit, doing things I probably shouldn't have, but that's just me, that's the way it was. It would be a boring world if we were all the same.''

Plugger a thrill for the players

At Saturday night’s 2010 Hall of Fame celebration, it was not only the guests who were excited about the attendance of St Kilda Legend, Tony Lockett. As a very rare appearance for Lockett with his old Club, players from the current St Kilda senior team were also eager to meet the full forward for the first time.

Speaking at a media conference yesterday, Saints Vice Captain Lenny Hayes said; “I met Tony Lockett out the back just before he went on stage and it was a real thrill for me.â€

The sad thing is, that Tony Lockett would never have pulled on a boot in today's AFL.

Nor would have Greg Williams, and many other legends of the sport.

We just won't see dudes like him anymore.

Neither would have got through the U18 comp.

When I was invited down to the Central Dragons several years ago, the very first thing they did was run every guy there until they spewed and/or collapsed.

This meant that 50% never returned, and many many more were told not to come back. They basically made the first and second cuts based purely and simply on physical ability.

Brilliantly talented kids who had more football ability in their scrotum than 90% of the guys there, never made it past the first training session.

Yes must agree again. The only thing Plugger lacked for todays footy is fitness. Who is to say if he came up through the program now he wouldnt get fit. Williams like when he first tried to play way back in 1881 may struggle but pure ball winning would eventually see him drafted.
