St Kilda defence 2009-2010
Since 1995, only three times have teams conceded less than 1600 points in a home and away season.
1. Adelaide 2005 (1517)
2. St Kilda 2009 (1411)
3. St Kilda 2010 (1591)
An outstanding effort by the Saints and Ross Lyon who should definitely go down as one of the great pioneers in league history for his revolutionary frontal pressure and oustanding success with zone defence.

Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
Yet teams like geelong and collingwood have managed to kick 600 more points against opposition than us with a similar defensive record. Like soccer its like going through the whole season without conceding much yet don't have enough goals to win the championship.
Hopefully we produce some good scores.. because if we do, looking at that stat we will most likely win.

Judging on last year- yes.LennyBoy wrote:Tactically the best defence in the last two years but will it hold up in finals when it matters!
Conceded 62 pts on average in the finals last year- scored an average of 76, just couldn't nail our chances.

My concern also. We've kicked over 100 points in three of our last four and hopefully it is this form ... rather than last weeks paltry five goals ... that we bring on Friday night.noob wrote:Yet teams like geelong and collingwood have managed to kick 600 more points against opposition than us with a similar defensive record. If the backline also stands up, we are a good chance.

and Kosi. But yes that seems like a pretty good analysis.SainterK wrote:The boys kicked 68 goals less this H&A season compared to last, I don't think it's to simplistic to say that the difference was Roo?

I'd agree with that. It took us weeks to learn to kick winning scores without him, then weeks to readjust to him being back.SainterK wrote:The boys kicked 68 goals less this H&A season compared to last, I don't think it's to simplistic to say that the difference was Roo?
I don't have a satisfactory answer for last week other than the fact that we missed Milne and Schneider and nothing was resting on the result.
Hopefully it was just an anomaly and we will see a return to 2009 dominance on Friday night. It's not too much to hope that a team that won 19 straight then with pretty much the same personnel can now string three in a row together.
As for Kosi, he's a he'll of a lot better a player with Riewoldt taking the best couple of tall defenders. Only a lack of alternatives for his position has kept him in after a pretty poor season.
I'd have had him in the ruck weeks ago. I'd love him to now prove that opinion wrong. Also, Milne, Schneider and Mini (if he plays) have something to prove after last year's finals.
We've got to make every opportunity count.

All the hoopla aside
Am I to believe we are walking into the first week of September with a double chance and a completely clean set of health (apart from raph) ?
We have no injuries?
Shizen. Ill take it!

Thought it was pretty obvious. Did either side win a flag?saintsRrising wrote:Any particular reason?plugger66 wrote:
