Thankfully that's the general vibe I'm getting.

A resolute kind of confidence.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. It's about using the percentages.

Meeting our KPIs

Keeping our structures intact.

Having belief in our systems.

Using our core strengths to achieve outcomes.

Not losing sight of the bigger picture.

Not overlooking the smallest things.

Staying dedicated to our task right to the end.

Engaging in a process that we have formulated.

Negating our weakness through identifying opportunities.

Leading by example and using best-practice principles.

Uniting our group towards a common goal.

Exploiting a weakness when we can see it.

Being productive and co-operative.

Not looking backwards.

Not looking too far forwards.

Keeping true to our brand.

If we can do all that, I believe we are capable of maximising our output and finding one of the two available promotions available this weekend.

No need for nerves.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

I know the Preliminary Finals are tense ones but looking at the record of the Doggies this year they have not defeated any Top 4 sides. Colling wood has killed them all 3 times.

More over they beat Sydney who has not won a game at the ‘G’ this year. Sydney lost to Richmond & was smashed (by 73 points) by the Demons.

They have lost their best players in Cooney & Higgins. May not have Morris (even if he plays he will be only 50% because of match fitness) no Aker, Johno is limping, Reid & Lake are injured, also heard that Tom Williams is only 60% fit, on the other hand we have a full healthy list to choose from. Had a week off & confident after beating the Cats.

Only we can beat us & that’s because of complacency.
Never been more certain of a win ....

If we can't beat the Bulldogs, we wouldn't have won if we made the GF. I don't know about you, but I would much prefer to lose a prelim than a GF.

I always thought that as well but after last year losing the prelim would have been even worse than losing last years GF IMO.

Nothing is worse than losing a GF; you are so close to glory.

Anyway, if we play at our best, we shouldn't have any trouble with the wounded doggies.

You are spot on & I said the same thing to my wife that if we can't beat the Doggies then we do not deserve to be in the G.F.

I'm as nervous as hell.

The only thing that is helping is that my wife had a dream that we were all at a party celebrating after the GF and the St Kilda players were there and Roo was getting too friendly with her.

I'm ok with that.

i don't mind having the prelim butterflies. just so long as the boys don't have them too badly on saturday night, we should be okay.

Nothing wrong with nerves. When the stakes are high, when you want something so badly it hurts, the fear of failure makes us nervous.

Put it this way,

Do we want to be free of nerves sitting at home knowing the Saints are already out?

Or would we rather be sh1tting ourselves at the prospect of a massive game to reach a Grand Final?

This is where we want to be. This is why we support the club. Games like this.

The fans of 12 other clubs will be watching the footy this weekend wishing it was their team out there, wishing they were the ones bricking it like we are.

Next time we're not in a preliminary final, we're actually going to miss these nerves.

It's right to be nervous. If you're not nervous in some way you're probably not paying attention.

After week one of the finals, the phrase 'there's always next week' becomes 'there's always next year'. That's enough to make anyone nervous.

I'm always nervous - no matter who we play. I hate taking on the footy gods so much prefer to take a back seat - BUT still barrack and support like crazy during the game to help get the team over the line. please ... please ..please

Yes, we can all say that as a throw away matter of fact line, but most of us will still be nervous because we know how disappointed/upset we will be if they don't get over the line.

plugger66 wrote:Why are we nervous. Answer is simple. The prelim is the hardest game of the year to win or watch. I was more nervous during last years prelim than at any stage during last years GF. Lose a prelim and you dont even get to the big dance.
Totally agree with this. I hated last years prelim. Felt physically ill from start to finished and never enjoyed it at all, until afterwards. Worst I've ever felt at a game. I think the sense of expectation was just too much for me. We were expected to win and I had this sickening feeling right from the first bounce we were going to lose. Winning was a relief.
Having actually gotten to the GF, I was so excited to be there only having only ever been once before (as a neutral supporter in 1992 Hawthornvs WCE). I also went along hopeful rather than expectant which I had been at the prelim. I was secretly just hoping we wouldn't get thrashed. WHile the game was stressful, it was a different kinds of stress. It was only at three qtr time when I finally allowed myself to think we might actually win it, and then watched it slip away that the devastation slipped in.

Will be going along this week with that sense of expectation again. I am expecting us to win, so If we don't start well, the game will be very stressful. Lets hope we win easily and its' not as stressful as last year.

GO SAINTS!!!

If it's wet, I doubt any one team will score much more than that. Probably the Doggies best hope at the moment.

Looking at the odds makes me nervous. Its amazing that in a two horse race one horse is 1.22 & the only other horse is 4.55!
