Saints mourn Jack Barker
17 Sep 10 @ 10:47am by Paul Amy
A DAY out from its preliminary final against the Western Bulldogs, St Kilda is mourning the loss of great supporter Jack Barker.
Mr Barker, 84, the father of revered Saints high-flyer Trevor, died this morning at a Hampton aged-care centre.
While he was immensely proud of his son’s achievements, Mr Barker himself was an accomplished footballer.
He played more than 300 games for Cheltenham, winning two senior best and fairests and coming runner-up in a federal league medal.
In 2008 the Weatherall Rd ground was named the Jack Barker Oval.
Every door opened for him at St Kilda and he was also held in high regard at Sandringham.
“Jack is a legend of sport around this part of Melbourne,â€

I never met this man but what I used to read about him was wonderful.
I'm in tears as I read these posts...
His son, our beloved Trev, was my idol growing up in the 70's, no doubt like a lot of Saints fans.
He would be urging the boys to win the flag not for him and Trev, but for themselves and all Sainters.
Reunited with Trev. Condolences to his family.

A very special person,
growing up in my teen years imagine my excitement I found out where the great late Trevor Barker lived,we went around there to be greeted by Mr Barker he let us in got us a cold drink and said Trevor would be home soon,so we could meet him and get us an autograph.
He took us out to his backyard and showed us his piegons which he use to race.
He was such a gentleman.
Last year I had the honor of talking to him and his wife Evelyn at training quie a few times such a beautiful couple.
Had the pleasure of making his lunch grandfinal week last year ,he just loved the boys ,his boys.
Ross always stop and spoke to Jack.
All the boys loved Jack he was their spiritual Grandfather.
At all home games as we left I would always stop and speak to him,he loved our club so much it was his family.
God bless you dear Jack join your beautiful son Trevor, St.Kilda were blessed to have you as part of our club.
Deepest Sympathy to Evelyn, family and our club

Jack
Thanks for giving to our club a son who was the personification of loyalty and devotion to the St Kilda Football Club and it wasn't hard to see where that great quality came from.
The only reason I shed tears after the Grand Final on the Sunday was the article in the Sunday Herald Sun with an article about Jack being in the rooms after loss.
The realisation was that he may not be here to see another tilt at the flag and sadly it has happened.
The sign at the Trevor Barker Beach Oval "reserved for Jack Barker and friends" now has a more special meaning.
