Our thoughts and best wishes are with the Barker family today and the extended St.Kilda family...

A wonderful man and champion of a son...probably would have coached the Saints one day.

Any tears that are shed on Saturday will be on behalf of so many loved saints who aren't with us anymore..

Including my Dad Sir Walter and Mum Mary who were staunch St.Kilda people..

Sure everyone here has someone they will be thinking of on Saturday that makes this whole occassion very emotional...

Lets hope the allstar match committee upstairs helps bring it home and for a few weeks and months we'll all be united in heaven

I know the service is on as we speak, but is someone able to provide a little report if they attended the service.

Farewell Jack and I hope you have a good send off surrounded by red, white & black.

Yep, Rod Butterss was on SEN before, and he'd just been to the service...

He said Danny Frawley and Robert Harvey spoke well, and mentioned how often Jack was at training and the Club, and how positive he was... he said Ross would always have a quite word to him about selection and our form, which he loved.

Very well said, mate

Jack loved the Saints like nothing else and fathered an absolute champion and legend of this club!
His spirit and soul will live on, my deepest sympathy to his family and friends!

I will definitely be thinking about Trevor and Jack when we win the Premiership THIS Saturday!

RIP

Saints pause to farewell a favourite son
ST KILDA'S grand final preparations were put on hold yesterday morning as the club gathered to farewell Jack Barker, the father of legendary captain Trevor Barker.

Past and present Saints attended the funeral in Mordialloc, including Justin Koschitzke, Barry Breen, Russell Greene and Carl Ditterich.

Aaron Hamill arrived with Shane Warne, while Danny Frawley and Robert Harvey were pallbearers.

''Jack passed away last Friday, and on Saturday, Cheltenham reserves won their first premiership in 52 years, since Jack was captain-coach,'' Frawley said.

''The Saints don't need devine intervention to win on the weekend.''

Harvey said he had known Jack for 25 years. ''Two words to describe Jack are loyalty and courage, and they stand out like a beacon,'' he said.

''Jack never missed a training session and he never missed a game. He loved Ross [Lyon] talking to him about any selection dilemmas coming up [and] the players always took time out to have a chat.

''If you are struggling for an image to take away from today, I'll give you the one I'll be taking - It's of Jack, his little girl Katrina and Trevor high over the MCG on Saturday, watching the boys do battle, with a smile from ear to ear.''

Jack Barker is survived by his wife, Evelyn.

I'm in tears again after reading this and the report in todays paper.

I never knew that Trev's sister died when she was 8 - that is truly heart-wrenching.
To lose one's children way before their time is the greatest anguish of any parent.

This GF will be the most emotional of all time should we win.

Much as I love the folks in aisle 18/19 and we have a few laughs and fun when we win and share the hard times too. It's just not the same spot for me now particularly with Evelyn passing away too. I always loved my chats with them each week and Jack would always urge me to "rev 'em up mate" marvellous people who I will always miss seeing at home games.
