Many unhappy firsts that year -

* First wooden spooner
* First team with no wins in a year
* First team (I think) to have leading goalkicker honours shared between 2 players.

Would any of those be right?

First team to go goalless in a league game.
when we kicked 0.2.2 against South Melb in Round3??
The first team to not kick a behind in an entire match??
when we kicked 3.0.18 in Round 14??

We got the first fine (3 guineas) from the VFL for being late to that game.

OK, cool, my turn!

A wartime Saint who lead the goalkicking twice also has the distinction of representing Australia at the Olympic Games. Who was the player and which sport did he play?

Hmmm....

Assuming that it was WW2 (Saints went into recess? during WW1) would it be Sam Loxton?

Sam Loxton, teammate of Keith Miller, fullforward (not sure whether he topped the goalkicking (I am assuming Saints not league) - was cricket a demo sport at the 1956 Games?

Go Saints :D :D

Peter Bennett was five times leading goalkicker and represented Australia in the Olympic Games twice in water polo.

Why would you waste your time at the Olympics if you could play for the Saints?

Right you are, kosi fan tutti.

Whats even worse than wasting his time at the Olympics instead of being our much needed full forward, this player, who twice scored 8 goals in a game, actually quit the then-struggling Saints to prepare for the '56 Olympics.

Your go. :)

Computers!

I've been trying to log on for a day as kosi fan tutti but can't do it. Even created a new registration but that doesn't work for me.

So back to the questions.

The day we lost to the Bulldogs and Max cried, who was making their debut for the Saints?

Gotta love the Blake!

I had an idea that the game was R16 2001.
Riewoldt debuted in R15 of 2001 but I'm not aware of anyone having their first game in R16.

Maybe it was not R16 of 2001? - time flies.
In 2002 we played the bullies once and were beaten.
In 2003 we played them twice and beat them both times.

Go Saints :D :D

Found it!!

R9 2000

Bullies by a measly point.
Jason Blake debuted.

(I try and forget about the losses).

Doesn't seem like 5 years ago.

Go Saints :D :D

It was a loss, but still a great game.......

I think that was the game that the bulldogs paid for, and everyone just got the free tickets from the ticket agency.......

OK... next question....

Everyone knows that the Saints set a record by winning 10 in a row in 2004.

What year did we win 5 in a row (but on two separate occassions)?

Go Saints :D :D

OK....

That year 1966.....

Who was the only St. Kilda player that did not swap his saints jumper out on the ground, after our premiership, but 2 days later was forced to by peer group pressure?

And what jumper did this player get in return???

I believe it was Ian Cooper (?). I think he got the Bomber captain jumper.

Yes mate it was...

In 1998 when Ian Synman turned 60, his son in law, managed to track down Terry Waters (Pie No 5) in an attempt to retrieve Synman's No 9 jumper.

But Waters didn't have it. He wore it to training as penance - and wore it out.

Synman still has Waters' jumper.....

You Go.....

Great, I've got a real doozie, too -

In 1992, Essendon reserves player Peter Filandia "won" the Gardiner Medal, that competitions highest award, by a whopping 7 votes, but, in a twist of fate he had been suspended during the season. In an eerie 1997 Brownlow preview, this allowed the runner-up, a St Kilda reserves stalwart, to be awarded the medal in Filandias place.

Which Saint was that?
