Hickey... Was beaten comfortable in the Hit outs three weeks in a row?

46-20 last week
60-25 tonight
Your numbers are wrong for starters, last night was 60-29. Well beaten in hitouts.
BTW I don't remember you complaining about McEvoy losing the hitouts every single week?
Thank god we have Dunstan instead now.

Yes .... Some third man up hit outs from Lenny count?!

I think hit out stats are useless... Indicated this before?

But if it was going to be used (as you just did) for Mac.... Doesn't it need to be used for the incumbent? To keep it consistent?!

On Dunstan
We didn't trade Mac for Dunstan.... We traded pick 18 for Mac ....which we secured Dunstan
We had no idea going into the Draft which player we would secure there? Or that he wouldn't have been available at pick 24?

We picked A.McQualer at pick 17... Would we be happy about him for Mac?

It wasn't a case of Good trading... It was a strategic risk the club took... Very bold and brave.
It was however excellent drafting, which was conduced nearly a month later. To secure Dunstan!

Long term now
The Mac out.... Longer Dunstan in... Will be a huge win
If we didn't get Longer and say picked up a poor draft selection it would have been dire... But that was the risk we took and it seems it will pay off!

Let's leave it at that…

I think you are naive to assume that Longer coming was luck… Pretty sure they would have been talking to him before we traded out McEvoy.

The club has done well, enjoy.

!
You first point is farcical. The Pelchen strategy has been to secure more and lower picks (or multiple players) with trades over several years in order to speed up our rebuild.

In the McEvoy trade we gain not just one extra pick inside the top 20 in a very strong draft, we gained TWO. It was bloody brilliant trading not just good trading...let alone not good!!!

Quoting McQualter at 17 is misleading in the extreme as that was a weak draft year. (see below for picks 10-30 that year).

When Pelchen did the trade he KNEW that there were two dozen good picks on offer , and getting two extra picks inside 20 would get us two good players.

Just wait till Acres gets some games into him.

1 10 Collingwood Christopher Egan 27
1 11 Port Adelaide Adam Thomson 32
1 12 Richmond Danny Meyer 26
1 13 Melbourne Matthew Bate 102
1 14 Essendon Angus Monfries Port Adelaide 176
1 15 Melbourne Lynden Dunn Melbourne 119
1 16 Richmond Adam Pattison 66
1 17 St Kilda Andrew McQualter 94
1 18 Brisbane Cameron Wood Carlton 64
1 19 Port Adelaide Ryan Willits 3
2 20 Richmond Dean Polo 77
2 21 Hawthorn Thomas Murphy Gold Coast 112
2 22 Western Bulldogs Jesse Wells 0
2 23 Collingwood Sean Rusling 17
2 24 Adelaide Nathan Van Berlo Adelaide 182
2 25 Carlton Adam Hartlett 11
2 26 Hawthorn Matthew Little 1
2 27 Brisbane Patrick Garner 0
2 28 Adelaide Chad Gibson 0
2 29 West Coast Matthew Rosa West Coast 140

Cox vs Hickey. Cox is an experienced ruckman at the height of his powers and experience. What did you expect of Hickey?

Why do you not compare him to the young Cox whose first 36 games averaged 11 Hit outs per game? Hickey has averaged 11.5 in 27 games and has unlike Cox come from a non-AFL background. Importantly Hickey is continuing to improve.

Why do you not compare him to what the younger Nic Nat did on the night?

Oh OK

Hickey is streets ahead?....

He has not yet won the Hit Outs... Ben was critisised for getting beat in the hit outs?

But Hickey is a gun! Ben Who

At the end of the year... Let's revisit

Hopefully Ben isn't a premiership player like that dud Ball or that B&F BJ Goddard

On the back of three games, we have declared a gun.... I'll see... But AT this stage he's been good
Already we are warming though, and justifying

Why would we decide at the end of this year?
Hickey will still have well under 50 games experience.
McEvoy winning a premiership is meaningless in this debate, unless you think we would have won one this year if we'd kept him.
What will be more interesting is in 5 years time, whether hickey, longer, Dunstan, acres & savage are more value to us than McEvoy, dal santo & hartung.

Who said Hickey is a gun?

He is developing and deserves to be given a chance. But some on here are hellbent on bagging him and comparing him to McEvoy.

Apparently clubs were laughing at the trade, and Hickey was heavily critisised and insulted.

Maybe someone is trying to justify these posts.

Nobody said Hickey is a gun, but most Saints supporters want him to develop into one, others seem to make it their lifes mission to hope he fails.

Strange attitude from a so called supporter???

No. But someone did go early and declare him a gumby.....

And has come up with a continuous stream of crap ever since to try and support that. Maybe having the character to admit they were wrong would bring and end to what I suspect will be a season long campaign by the rest of the posters to get that one poster to man up and say "I was wrong"......what do you think?????

Which part of we are rebuilding to have a crack in futures seasons do you not understand?

We sacrificed Ben in a win/win trade so that we can be better again more quickly. We lose in the sort term, for long term benefit

(Though if Dunstan keeps that form up, there will in fact be no short terms pain!!! To date Hickey + Dunstan has been better than Ben would have been alone.)
