I think JBattle is a key forward, and that's the only place I would play him- put him at CHF for a few games, and this is regardless of playing some good footy in the backline in the past. He is a bit slow on recovery and transition once he loses the ball, but is a strong contested mark and a great kick for goal.

Has Battle ever played a decent game forward?

I can’t recall one??

He kicked 3 goals in a game once (vs GC) and has kicked 25 goals 18 behinds in 47 games

Never received a Brownlow vote

Not receiving a Brownlow vote? Why is he still on our list then?

I do find it interesting that one of our highly rated favourite players has never been judged as one of the best players on the ground

Don’t think he’s ever got coaches votes, has he finished top ten in the B&F?? Maybe the year he played CHB??

To be honest I don't find it that interesting. It is a bit like trying to convince me that St Kilda and Ross Lyon were absolutely correct in ignoring Nick Smith in the National Draft and then again in the Rookie Draft by choosing Clint Jones. The proof being that Clint Jones got some Brownlow votes & Nick Smith didn't.

Yes, I know for a fact St Kilda were well aware of Nick Smith, as they were aware of Robbie Gray.

Surely a coach must look to speak with and encourage more players than just those who get Brownlow votes & Top 10 B&F finishes?

So no, I do not find that aspect interesting.

Better than Nick Smith?

Sorry, silly question. Nick did not get a Brownlow vote. I guess that makes the question rhetorical as well as silly.

He was fast developing as a very good CHB, and looked to be heading for a breakout year.

Hopefully Ratts realises at some point that Josh needs to settle in a position - and CHB was where he started to thrive.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Battle will be made Medical Sub tomorrow.
Not sure who comes in, maybe Mason Wood, wasn't he med sub recently?

Nothing wrong with Josh not having a set position. His ability to play different parts of the ground, in different roles, is invaluable.

He's a beauty in terms of where he can be used and the holes he can plug. A true team man. He won't win a Brownlow or B&F but is the type that can help us win a flag.
