Hazelwood is a better bowler but coming back from injury

Boland is in great form

BTW
Boland I think is 34 and a couple of years older than Josh.

Big fan of Jhye Richardson - if he can get his body right!

Neser would be good in England but I don’t rate him that highly
I would have him about 7th or 8th

Apparently there’s another WA quick who is easily the fastest bowler in Aus

Aso it’s Boland!

I wonder if fast bowlers know that the amount of white ball cricket they play eats into their test career even as it pays the bills.

By the way Shane Watson was a pretty handy all rounder. I just don’t know why he couldn’t ‘make it’ so to speak.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Did Watto win 1 or 2 AB Medals… either way it’s significant

His numbers across three formats - outstanding

He was our best white ball player for 3 years

He opened the Batting Successfully in Test cricket

Took wickets in all formats

He is the most underrated and maligned cricketer I can think 🤔

If Green averages 36 you’d nearly take it.

Just checked
2 x AB Medals

Neither, they will both be frequently free kicked for throwing the ball even though would claim they bowled it. But that too is an incorrect disposal.

My theory as Captain

Win the toss - bat

Or

Win the toss - think about it, and bat!

Correct

He once said to an opposition captain after winning the toss

“You can have a bat… after us!”

If they can get through this half hour or so relatively unscathed then an inspired decision which will leave a very good Sth African attack toiling in the heat whilst the pitch should be at its best on days 2 & 3.

That was a road for a day 1 pitch

SA are a horrendous batting line up

No batter averages 40
4 of the top 6 average in the 20s

It had zero to do with the pitch or toss, more to do with s*** batting (and running)

Australia should score 400

Better their batsmen face our atrack on the first morning than ours face theirs. Good call at the toss. Now for our batsmen to cash in on what should be an even better "road" tomorrow & Wednesday if they are any good.

Which wicket in the SA innings was because of a day 1 pitch?

Aus would be 4/300+

If they batted first

Toss irrelevant when you compare batting line ups

Watson has a case for being our best white ball cricketer ever, a lock for T20

Very handy test player, would have been nice if he converted a few more 50s

Symonds an underrated Test all rounder too

Then why the need to bang on about always bat first? Isn't it a better decision to have won the toss, bowled first and avoided a stupidly hot day(s) that would not do a fielding team any favours? Especially a team whose strength is their bowling attack.

Because batting first has some significant advantages

Aus would be about to declare at 500 plus if they did

Not that it makes any difference

Compare the batting line ups

Their best batter is not as good as our worst batter

I think it's time to accept it was a good decision for the conditions. The Sth African attack is cooked, we should not have to bat again.

I never think bowling is a good call - unless it’s an absolute green top - like the Gabba

I once chose to bowl in a SF - thought there was a bit in the deck

We got a few early, then a bloke came in and swung out of his arse and got 90

We couldn’t chase 190

Never bowled first again

In this game it wasn’t a good decision - but it didn’t matter!

They couldn’t bat on concrete!
