Given me a guy that can win a contested footy or defend or gut run

Connolly is a mile off

Not the most physical guy on the list, let’s put it that way!

Brad Hill without the running power

I just can't see Connolly making it, just lacking too much, physicality mostly.

Webster ain’t got another gear and is borderline now
Connolly still a kid (they’re so easy to take cheap shots aren’t they? ….I remember meeting a skinny kid called Montagna…arms like sticks…good skills though…) he cane on
You have your Dunstans who win plenty contested ball and give back half the time….in modern gane that kills you ….maybe you want a team full of Clint Jones???? Gut run….should never kick the ball though …
I’ll take the kid with some natural class anyday and Connolly has already shown at AFL he can play.

Proven he can play?

7 games
11ppg (off hb)
0.5 tackles

I think you’re basing your assessment on one kick he did in his 2nd game where he took a bounce and used his left to hit a target in the centre?
It was a nice play

Not so nice - getting outmarked by a small forward in the goal square
Defenders need to be able to spoil one out

Yes he’s green
He’s young I’m not sure your point?
He’s proven he’s able to play at AFL speed
CQ is right ge doesn’t have the confidence yet
Are you saying 7 games in he’s a bust??
Are you Vort under another Nic?
I’ve seen all Webster can do….as good as it gets ….
Tick tock…

Nailed it, but seriously if you look at the slow motion footage he shanked the kick.

The club should have an award called the Mark McGough Medal (MMM) for the player who got lucky and played the best game he was ever gunna play, or capable of...on debut.

Try watching Webster stifle Charlie Cameron and Toby Green

Then ask yourself how Leo Connolly would go on those two

He migh pop off a few neat kicks from hb in about 10 touches

Whilst they bang through half a dozen

I mean seriously

Webster is 188cm quick and hard as fk… courage in spades and a great one on one defender.

Connolly gets exposed one out in the VFL

In a list ranking - I’d have him only in front of Adams, Allison and Peris. So about 40th!

I hope he comes from the clouds and is the next Corey Enright
But realistically, I think he’ll be delisted at seasons end

Finally a semi coherent view
It’s not one I agree at all with and your 2 good Webster games prove little
Facts are he’s a seasoned player ofcourse he should be able to do those roles
Connolly has played 7 games and still has to develop…your comparison is stupid
It’s like the one suggesting Pou is Bont ….but people like to dream …
Regardless Connolly already has better footskills and that’s awfully hard to teach …so we’ll see at end of year if he goes ..
I think some of your supposed mature gun players (they’re all guns according to you ….Webster, Ross, Billings…😀…..anyone would think the list is flag worthy now!!) might also be going end of the year so you better buckle up

Ever wondered why only 7 games in 3 seasons as a defender?

I mean at pick 64 it's surprising.

Statistics are high though for him to become a 200 game veteran.

Teffers rates him though… should come in and replace Webster

And other kids come in and replace Ross, Billings and Jones

Maybe Sharman for Membrey???

That is, if we are Tanking!!!!

Me - In it to play finals - until we cannot - then re-evaluate

I think, we just re-evaluated, not sure, but I think we had a review and sacked our couch after renewing his contract a few months earlier.

The list is being re-evaluated. In my opinion about 6 positions are available.

First shot will have to go to

Billings- will he get fit and stay fit? Not likely, going off recent seasons.
Gresham - see Billings
Mackenzie - see Billings
Jones - lol.
We are 2 good midfielders short because all 4 of these blokes are inconsistent.
Owens will replace one of these
Phillipou will replace one of these
NWM will replace on of these
Windhager has filled one of the good mid vacancies and went straight passed all of them.

Just mho.

The Full Back of the Century once had 10.7 kicked on him as a 21yo ..... maybe he should have never been given another game

Finals? Like last year with your fanboy Webster in/out of the side ???
Me?
In it not to just play finals….want to contend ..need an upgrade on a few if current list (Webster included) to do it
You can keep wallowing in mediocrity..,Im interested in where the growth will come from ..
Newsflash:
Won’t be massive from Ross/Webster as I suspect we’ve seen their best
Do you think Connolly should be delisted now?

Spot on!
It’s where that future crop steps in to replace a few …it will happen …you can’t play them all that’s fact
Question is: will Owens/Windhager et al take us further than the Ross, Billings types who’ve been here for years ????
How high is the ceiling on this new lot?
NWM? Pou? Hotton ?
Can any take the AA step like Sinclair has???
It’s what we realistically need to be top 4 and go deep

What makes you sure any of those kids will be any good at all?

Outside of Windhager - the rest have done FA

Top 4/flag fancies this year?
Yes…better let Ross know…we signed him for 4 years fir a reason….
If you’re so confident of flag /top 4 fir us this year with your jets in Webster, Ross et al I’d be happy to take a small wager…

We won’t make the top 4

Be lucky to make top 8 and should be anywhere from 6-12

With around a 10-12 win season

If we go down your path and don’t play established player - we will finish bottom 4 with about a 6-8 win season or worse.

If we go down that route - we will have continue for a few years - as senior players leave - possibly a worse season to follow next season - maybe 4-6 wins - No FAs will consider us

Then there is the hope that we climb the ladder?

It is not a guarantee - DPs are NEVER a guarantee of success

Carlton had three No1 DPs in a a row - Murphy, Gibb, Kruzer - none saw any real success
Melbourne had pick 1 2008 & picks 1 & 2 in 2009 - were a basket case for 8 years thereafter

I bet if we go back 2014/15 posts on here - there would have been some chubbies on here about Billings, Dunstan, Acres, McCartin, H.Hoddard, McKenzie, Gresham

I’m happy going to games knowing we could win - whilst building the list

So we are still building a list capable of challenging but we are not near it yet ????
Glad we cleared that up
We will play kids next 1-2 years whether you like it or not - we have to cause we lack depth in genuine A grade quality and last I looked….the Nick Daicos of the world aren’t coming to us…
So we will play NWM, Windhager, Owens, Pou, Hotton abs who knows hopefully a Van Es/Keely, Bytel, Connolly etc along the way…will we do that all at once?? That’s just you making up BS cause no one on here has recommended that..
Abs if some of those kids become staples - rest assured some of our current B-C graders (your super stars) from Richo/Ratten years will be pushed out…
Bring it on
We’ll also go to draft to delve deep again year this cause they’ve woken up….C grade recycled players without enough of a quality core get you mid table at best ….we have to go beyond that.
I could t care if we don’t make the 8 this year
I expect a larger than normal cull/trade out at seasons end when RTB works out who cuts the mustard and who is just treading water

Some have mentioned Webster, Ross, Jones in this thread.

The three have been strong servants (Jones not as long obviously) but the hope from me us our young draftees develop quickly enough that the 3 musketeers end up playing for the Zebs and are 'depth' players.
Seb n Web are at that age where they've not gone long left.

Agree Wellard
It’s not disrespectful to want to go one better than what these guys have provided- yes they’ve been good servants but I’m after a flag for St Kilda FC ideally before I die!!
Not everyone will be a star abd all sides need these players…right now we have a few too many in this category
