I fear we will really miss Seb, as in he will be hard to cover for.

I'm just resting after a hard work day, can't be arsed looking it up, but I can't recall Skunk missing a game in years? I think he missed one with Seb, but not injury, it was for his wife's birth, and we were playing in Cairns with no idea if we could return to Melb

Windy didn't look near playing on the news. Bandaged hand in a sling.
Who knows what the team will look like for the 150th commemoration match?
There are a couple of games and several practice sessions before then.

St Kilda's training loads at this time of year would be no different to any other club. The current injury list would have absolutely nothing to do with Lyon's training methods.

In my limited experience, pre-season and training injuries related to muscle usually occur because your fitness and strength base has dropped too low for a period.

We weren't fit enough or strong enough last year, now it shows.

But injuries like those sustained by King, Membrey, Windhager, Billings, etc... that's just plain and simple bad luck.

Where is Highmore at? I don't recall seeing him in either of the praccy matches. Either injured or out of favour.

If the players weren't fit enough or strong enough then the baseline assessment by people with sports science qualifications from Lyon's staff would have identified that and created programs accordingly to avoid increasing the loads in a way that would negatively impact the players. Sports science, it's not the ammos.

I would suggest we need all players fit and playing even if its just for development. Just because they are expected to start at Sandringham doesnt make it any better for the club, considering the huge number of injuries.

Actually, I'd say it's only 4 who we'll seriously miss: Membrey, Windhager, Ross and King. And we'd probably be ok if we were only missing one of Windhager and Ross. I agree with you that the forward line is the real worry: we were light on for taller forwards anyway, and now our two main ones are injured at the same time, plus a potential fill-in in Hayes.

Billings, Jones and McKenzie are good players, but we've done ok without them in lots of games in recent times. Likewise Coffield, although I'm really not sure how good he is going to turn out to be, as I'm not sure that there is an obvious opening for him in the AFL team.

Like Sharman, Hayes has become a legend in the minds of many supporters on the basis of only a few games. I certainly think he could turn out to be a really handy mixture of second ruck and forward, but we haven't seen enough yet to be certain.
