did anyone complain at cambell brown on the footy show for the same reason? He used the word gay in a similar context. Imo, when used like that, it is not offensive, when you are calling someone gay as a derogatory comment, that is when it is offensive, not when someone says drums are gay, cos really, they arent gay according to any definition, so the meaning changes, and to me, makes it no longer offensive.
I have no problem with the life choices others make , homosexual or otherwise , but when has it become improper for me to call a homosexual gay ??
If someone is being or acting gay, or doing something that has been popular culture to be called gay they are being or are gay and thats that .
If your GAY your GAY ,
If your black your black.
No more of the vegan tree hugging lesbian save the whale chardonnay drinking leftie BS please.

so if i was in the street and i said a swear word, "like gay" how many people would say ' excuse me young man, you are offending me"!!
I don't know perhaps try it

if you are easily offended you shouldnt go on a public forum where people should be able to say what they want
Are you serious? Have you read half of saintsational over the last few years?

that is the worst things with forums
No, actually writing without any thought could come across worse IMO
So u put a lot of thought into that?
Not really my initial comment was pretty straight forward I would have thought. As per the above - pretty average debate actually - just answering your comments.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
My kid and his mates use and have used the word "gay" meaning something totally different to "homosexual" - long before they ever knew what a homosexual was.
Should I have said to him at the age of 7...
"oh son, don't use that word"
"Why dad"
"Well, you see there's some men who would be offended."
"Why dad?"
"Forget it son, carry on"
Cuz gave the bird... that was his finger... not his girlfriend.
I'm no homophobic and NO-ONE has the right to take over the use of a word. "Camp" site came long BEFORE the homosexual "Camp"... same deal.
Get over it, or yourself.... one or the other.... or don't, I could care less. I don't have time to put peoples minds at ease... and I refuse to bow to pressure from any group of people.
Get that "straight".
I am gayly with you mate. Don't fret - just keep living in the real world and being yourself. This strange phenomena of PC is gripping Australia to the extreme at present - most other countries are getting over it. We have / are taking it to the lunatic level.
I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

Perhaps your best contribution to this Internet forum.
gay originally meant happy or good times, hence the chocolate 'gaytime'
gay is currently used by many and have for the last couple of generations as homosexual.
now many younger kids use the term gay to mean a 'bad time' or project a negative image or a stereotypical 'bruno' gay behaviour.
i find the use of terms like 'gay' 'jew' 'downer' or 'downie' and 'nigger' used to deride activities and behaviour to be offensive and project a negative image.
who has hijacked who? evolution of language and what not, but gay as used by young kids to denote an activity in a purely derisional manner is to reinforce negative stereotypes of homosexuals and uncalled for.
Just as people who refuse to hand out cash are abused as Jews etc.
i guess if they had a child who had downs syndrome or a good friend who was homosexual they would probably change their tone.
i do realise language is liquid and perhaps just as the 'F" word is more prevalent and words like s*** and arse are openly used, the context and use of the word gay may evolve in the next few years.

The drum off should of been longer being a great drummer myself i think Sams style and technique was better . I like the term poofter myself , Poofters are the old leather moe and hairy types , Gays are clean mincing Julien Cleary types . This is australia we are a bunch of rough braindead phillistiens so what .
It's really not for us to decide what terms others should or shouldn't be offended by... and it's really not hard to avoid using those words, there are many thousands of others to choose from.
If you are female and GAY, Gay is your name or you are happy.
If you are homosexual, you are homosexual and not gay unless you are happy.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Just to clear the air folks, i was just telling Clarky (a bloke of my age) that maybe it wasn't that wise to be throwing words like this around, i didn't take offence to it otherwise i would have gone off my nut. Just thinking of others.
