Think you'll find they'll already have your IP address when you register, all they need to do is IP block the trolls.....
We don't get an IP when someone signs up with this board.

Only when they post do we get one, and anyone who knows anything about the internet can get around an IP ban in seconds.

You need to have an email address to join, as it sends you an email to finish rego.

So, if they're making fake emails, they really have too much time.

You can't log in until this rego is finished.

cant
we are not affiliated with the st kilda footy club
unless we all post a pic holding our membership up to our face with a drivers licence, but like SEN said you cant let a st kilda fan not read and post if they cannot afford a membership

As previously mentioned...

We are not part of the Football Club, so we cannot gain the confidential information to get names and membership numbers to confirm peoples identity.

Why do people not read? (Also funny that it's coming from someone who just recently joined up).

What about a troll membership?

If they are given recognition then maybe there would be better understanding and acceptance.

Been so long since I joined, but is signing up automatic or do they need to be approved?

I understand time restrictions might make it hard to do the latter, but I would suggest this as a way of weeding out the trolls and the like.

Simply deny access to anyone without a genuine email address.

I'd be happy to volunteer to approve or not all new registrations. As long as it is announced that any hotmail or gmail addresses will not be accepted.

If the email is fake, you won't get this email, so you can't join with fakes.

interesting to see time on the list of some who are now logged- random check found one who has never posted _ and that's ok- but joined on march 9 2004- restart day

so they survived the clean out when the russion brides weere deleted-- and there was thought of knocking of any who hadn't posted..

Not fakes as such. Just non-traceable hotmail addresses. They are easy to get and use, yet are technically not fake.

180 new members in 3-4 days

and one or two pf those have over 10 posts already---- which can also be a clue to a troll-- posting on every thread...

If we were to implement all these things that would make the site completely troll-proof, we would be paying a fortune to do so.

All these little extra things do cost money.

Not on sites I have adminned (sp?). It was simply a flick of a switch in the setup.

Do you want to manually approve or automatically approve new members? Same as flicking a switch to make the log in a requirement to view.

I don't think money comes into it.

I'm talking about the site not allowing emails from generic email sites.

I know of sites which have this feature, and it does cost to include it.

We just did it manually rather than have an automatic program. So money wasn't an issue. But time would be depending on the traffic that came through. We would get about 5 new sign ups a day.
