the new draft pick who comes in for lynch will be on less than lynch was. therefore we're better off from a salary cap perspective. and obviously the club don't rate lynch so they're betting that pick 37 has a good chance of being better in a couple of years. that's how it improves us.
That's my read on it too, and it's on that basis we can accept it.

He wasn't able to get going for us and while he might have been a first round draft pick , he has lost currency in the meantime and realistically second round is about right for him.

Lynch's manager just said that there is still haggling over the draft pick.

lynch was on his second contract which was an increase from his first contract, and his first contract was that of a first-round draftee.

his replacement will be on a second-round draftee contract. at least 100k less.
...and pick 37? - I hope we've put some serious money into draft data and have a very good understanding of what we are getting around there.
notable picks between 35 and 40 in the last few years:

2010: Luke Parker to Sydney (13 games in one year)
2009: David Astbury to Richmond (22 games in two years)
2009: Sam Reid to Sydney (24 games in two years)
2009: Allen Christensen to Geelong (19 games in two years, premiership)
2008: Jamie Bennell to Melbourne (51 games in three years)
2008: Zac Clarke to Fremantle (21 games in three years)
2008: Mitch Robinson to Carlton (49 games in three years)
2007: Scott Thompson to North Melbourne (72 games in four years)
2007: Chris Mayne to Fremantle (58 games in four years)
2006: Alwyn Davey to Essendon (69 games in five years)
2006: Todd Goldstein to North Melbourne (58 games in five years)
2006: Nathan Krakouer to Port Adelaide (53 games in five years)

some pretty solid players there. all you can do is get yourself early enough picks to give yourself a better chance at getting players.

I don't understand why people even think this is a bad deal.

We need pace and Lynch is as slow as they come and hasn't really shown anything that makes me think he's going to make it @ AFL level.

Good idea to ship him out, clear up some room in the cap and give someone else they opportunities he wasn't able to capitalise on.

if we do get pick 37 for lynch.

can we work out a way to package up gram and pick 25, 60 for pick 18, pick 40.

then could we package up 40, 42 and move it on?

Sounds like there is still some haggling with the draft picks.

Maybe there will be some steak knives.

I agree with this, Connors went through an absolute purple patch before the hotel incident with Ben Cousins, if he could recreate that form, he could be a really handy pickup.

Reasonable pace, good skills, could go harder at it, and certainly worth a shot.

How about giving some credit to the person doing the recruiting, Ameet Bains?
So far we have gained two new players, look like gaining salary cap space to the tune of Lynch's salary,(not that much), and we still have to find space for a contract with Tommy Walsh. We have to move more players than Lynchy.

yep, great idea to let him go for pick 37 given our abundance of back-up KPP. like... uhhm blake and...uumm johnson and... cahill and walsh. awesome. Not sure what we do if Zac is traded or gets injured, or heaven help us Fisher. maybe we can have a defensibve mosquito fleet as an innovation

Lynch never really looked the part at anywhere except Sandringham.

Found out for pace and smarts in the heat of battle plenty of times.

We have to lose someone to save money it seems.

He's the only one worth anything (the promise of one day living up to a high draft pick) that anyone would look at.

So be it.

Tough business sometimes.

Funny, though. He debuted against the Crows didn't he? From memory it was an absolute stinker he played too...

Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

i'd prefer getting draft picks:

trade out to adelaide: lynch
trade in from adelaide via richmond: 37
trade out to north melbourne: gram, pick 25, pick 60
trade in from north melbourne: pick 18, pick 40

that would give us picks 18, 37, 40, 42

if were even smarter we look to package up another senior player and pick to get another top 25 pick. i'd jump at:
trade out to freo: any of dawson/ray/peake/jones + pick 42
trade in from freo: pick 20

that would give us: pick 18, 20, 37, 40

I reckon we are pushing for a pick a bit closer to 30.
37 is not enough value in this draft for Lynch.
We don't want a player thrown in because of the cap situation

strange one...just mentioned as done on the SEN news, yet word is still haggling over draft picks. I guess we need to wait until it is confirmed by the club.

Was against Essendon. Fletcher taught him a lesson.
