As with the majority of posters on this thread, I wish him well.

Is a much maligned player who is a lot better than he is given credit for.

Must say, if we are already sitting on max compo, losing Clarke for nothing seems to me that the compo system has a major flaw...
There is no way that can be right. There's no logic. Then again it's the AFL we're talking about.

Which tells us plenty about Middo and his mates, I'm afraid. No chance of you following BJ to Tullamarine?

First rounder plus a third rounder?

as yet they have no logic for the compensation

the only given are the tiers of players-
BJ 1st ttier- supposedly a rd 1 pick
Raph Tier 3 or 4- as unrestricted and not within top % paid at club- so a round 3/4 pick

But where in the round, or if team loses more than 1 or 2- ie Port. then what>?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

My favorite player. Always felt he was seriously underated and seriously maligned ... often for things that weren't his fault.

Wish him nothing but the best

My understanding is that each player is assessed on his own merits.

For instance....if Raph were deemed to be Goddard's equal, we would get 2 1st round picks....13 &14.

As it is, as someone mentioned before, if he goes as FA, we will probs get 3rd rounder.....

If we picked up a FA, then our compensation for Goddard would be reviewed. If he is deemed an A grader then we may get reduced compo or no compo at all, depending on his actual rating.

Tells us nothing. Even my mates hang it on him, wont find too many people in the footy world who dont. Fact is, he is an average player, he wont be getting any better. Played a few good games, showed courage, good guy, wish him all the best. Fact is, he is average.

That was my understanding as well - but today I kept reading other people saying it was based on a combined net worth & it would mean that we wouldn't receive any more than the mid first round pick for Goddard - which sounds absurd!!!

Well said, Doc.

I hope he finds a second lease of life as a footballer.

All the best, Raph.

Well if Mick wants to shake things up there, and didn't like the soft footy they play....Raph would be the first picked if it was about not shirking contests.

Might go alright on a HFF. They are looking for biggish forwards

Mick would remember that final Raph played against Collingwood. If that was a game from Maxwell they'd have him knighted we just keep bugging him.

I wish the guy well, but agree with Middo. Am not sorry to see him leave. IMO just not quite up to it.

personally would not like to see him go
and always thought he was the bleeding obvious choice for the third tall in the forward line
he was courageous in the air & had better disposal than Glibert

I'm another one with mates who continually remind me how often Raph turns it over, that he's a donkey, and they asked what he had on our coaches that resulted in him getting games, lol.

Like most human beings, Raph has flaws and weak spots, and powerful strengths and abilities.
His flaws are technical -- those hosptal handpasses and feeble, looping kicks. And also perceptual -- those lapses in awareness, etc.
His strengths are moral strengths. Modestly, dedication, team-orientation, and -- foremost among them -- courage.
No more courageous player has played for the Saints.
I've loved him from the start. But I acknowledge he hasn't performed fully to all expectations.
I thank him, and wish him well.
The thought of people laughing at him makes me sick to the stomach.
Good on you Raph, and thank you -- you've been a true Sainter.

(Actually, is Raph really going? Or is it a rumour?
In which case, good on you Raph, and may you make it in your new home on the half forward flank.)
