they need you to give him a call and ask him if his sternum is f***ed.
Why would I call him to find that out?
You said you were mates. I'd call my mates and ask them if their sternum had collapsed. I'd ring my mates just to s*** them even if I hadn't heard a rumour in fact I think I'll group text some mates and ask them how their sternums are going.

ST KILDA best and fairest Lenny Hayes remains on track to resume pre-season training next month.
Hayes, 32, is making good progress after having corrective heart surgery last month to repair a leaky valve, with the club's medical staff keeping in regular contact with his specialist.
St Kilda head of football Chris Pelchen said the veteran midfielder had approached his rehabilitation with the same dedication as he had always approached his football.
"He is going very well at the moment," Pelchen said.
"The club doctor is maintaining close contact with the specialist.
"The whole plan has been based around getting him there for the first day of pre-season and the doctor only said to me recently that we are still going to plan."
Hayes is no stranger to overcoming adversity, having recovered from a knee reconstruction to win his third Trevor Barker Medal this season.
Hayes said in a recorded message at the club's best-and-fairest count that he was confident he would be right to go for the start of the pre-season.
