How the Locals are explaining us
http://www.dailycamera.com/news/ci_22077542
Australia's St. Kilda football club, part of the Australian Football League, will spend 16 days training in Boulder starting Wednesday.

The AFL, comparable to the National Football League in the United States, was founded in 1897 and has 18 teams spread over five states in Australia.

The game is played with a slightly larger, rounder ball than an American football, and the players wear no pads or protection. Players score by moving the ball downfield and kicking it into the opposing team's tall goal posts. Each team fields 18 players at a time.

The Saints will use the recreation center and several outdoor fields at the University of Colorado for their pre-season training camp. A group of 44 players and 26 support staff arrived in Denver on Tuesday evening.

Coach Scott Watters said he hopes training in a more "challenging" environment will produce better results for the squad during the regular season in Australia, which has an average elevation of 1,000 feet. The season begins in March.

"We pride ourselves on continual improvement," he said. "Boulder gives us the tools to do that."

The team will host several open practices to draw youth sports programs in the Boulder area, who they hope will attend and learn more about Australian football.

thats great to hear that they are going to hold open sessions over there .. honestly the way our game is played it should be a big hit with the american audiance so by opening up sessions you never know what that seed planted in the USA could endup growing into ...

26 support staff?

That's less than two players per staff!

Caching staff, fitness staff... Who else?

Minch can be seen in the lenny hayes update...didnt see jordan though, so perhaps he is the one if any rookies are to be delisted. Hopefully not though, I like the way he goes about his footy, seems like a really professional hard worker.

Let's hope Paul Connors and Caroline Wilthon weren't on the plane.

Wow, I went to US last year and was in the queue for all of 3 minutes. I'll consider myself lucky.

Yeah, my trip a few weeks ago was only about ten minutes - we were the first plane in on Saturday morning. But I've waited two hours before so it's swings and roundabouts.

Showed some highlights to a few guys I met in Texas.

A week or so later we were in a sports bar and hear someone saying that 'the Rugby is on'.
Was pretty stoked when one of my Texan friends explain that it wasn't. "Its called Aussie Football, and it's awesome."

They also loved the phrase to tell someone to "get f****d". They had never heard it used that way.
Next thing I know, every time they'd see me in the small town near Austin (which was a few times during my 8 week stay) I hear a bunch of blokes yelling "get f****d mate!"

Given he markworth and newnes could be triplets , hard to differentiate, tough to tell apart with hoodies on
And as stated above Minch in lenny video

Does Lenny cut his own hair these days. Teammates have suggested he's a little tight arseish but that's going too far.

If they come home and we dont hear of anybody taking enough grog and sleeping pills to make a large horse happy , then i'll be happy :P
Dont want the boys getting 'High' during the altitude training do we.
Mind you , when Cats won their last flag their pre season camp was at Falls Creek. Still not convinced all this high in the sky stuff is necessary???????
