Does that make Riewoldt, Joey, Goddard and Dal Santo ordinary, too?

I rate both Ray and Gilbert highly and I'm sure the club does, too, hence they are still on the list.

My argument is that they are not the future and, although you can't get rid of all your experienced players (a la Melbourne), I would prefer seeing more and more young-uns having a go.

With Hickey out we only have two tall forwards and no 3rd tall which I assume Membrey is supposed to be. That's probably why wouldn't you think?

Why not. Anyway they are paid more than the kids so let the Saints get some value for the money spent on them.

It's a new side now and I would much rather see McKenzie and Goddard getting a run than the above two. I know we don't want to get rid of all our experienced players a la Melbourne, and this is a winnable game, and we don't ever want to get thrashed, yada yada yada, but still, meh.
Short memory. Gilbert almost won the 2010 gF when moved forward and Ray stopped Swan in his tracks.

Also they will still be going when we are back in the finals in 3 years.

A big mistake bringing Gilbert in.. He's a shocking kick and decision maker..
Absolute waste of space and should only have come in if Denoster was injured etc

Great to see Gilbe recovered from his injury.
An enigmatic player for sure. Not surprised if AR just wants to see how he goes - Gilbe would give AR more options as he keeps on structuring & restructuring the team. Another fit player (with experience) probably helps the coach.
Overall it looks like the worthy list of those who deserve a chance seems to be growing. Sinclair, Lonie & McK have certainly helped raise the general standard. Ross back 'n available after his injury is very encouraging as well.
Acers, Ross, McK, Dunstan & Billings all in the mix is great to see.
Another selection factor playing on AR's mind is as someone further up the post said - ' this game is very winable'.
Plenty to consider.

Short memories. Gilbert would be in our top 10 players when fit. And will be around for our next finals assault.

People obsessed with his weaknesses and conveniently overlook his strengths. The guy is a 6'4" line breaking running machine who is near impossible to tackle and can gain an incredible amount of meters with his side step and evasive work. He draws players, tackles well and causes head aches for opposition strategy. His non preferred kicking is weak but he kicks well one sided. Great hands and good space maker for the guy kicking in. I think people were upset about the school girl scandal and over played his perceived weaknesses. He has come back a couple of times recently and was instrumental in the way the team played from deep back. I'm glad he's back.

And the opposition hardly ever kick it to his opponent. He's a great spoiler.
And he's only 28.
I would be rapt if he could stay fit. I reckon him and a more experienced Webster will have forward lines worried both ways.

Gilbo has sublime skills.

He looks dodgy but is incredibly agile and effective and is 194cm!!!

Not often you get 5 changes. Not really like for like either.

Gilbert for Shenton = upgrade
Weller for Schnieder = neutral...though Schnider has been in betterform
Dunstan for Billings = neutral
Membrey for Hickey = downgrade..but not by much
Minchington Sinclair = downgrade

So Tony74 was wrong - No Goddard.

Also seem to forget some of the monster goals he tends to kick regularly coming off half back. If he is fit, he gets his spot simple.
No sense playing a kid who might not be quite ready because of next season or 3 seasons from now.
Remember it was doing that, that probably wrecked Kosi.
We pick our best available team every week and a fully fit Gilbert right now, is in that team.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.

Has Billings been dropped, or is he injured?

Don't like Ross and Dunstan in the same team.
Love their hardness, but can't spread, both too slow.
Only room for one IMO

It's interesting though, I'm looking forward to seeing how they go

Come on Meatballs. Go the Minch, hope he kills it, he's a good natured guy and has worked hard to earn a go at a senior appearance. I hope he gets a full game to show something, he has some good skills.

Well im shocked. He is a water boy. Nothing wrong with that He knows as much as all of us. He watched training for years and they asked him to help. Why wouldn't you. I would if I was retired.
