Sounds much more promising. He is obviously a fighter so hopefully all ends up ok.

It was induced. They wanted him in it that long.

Further terrific news in regards to @PAFC list manager Jason Cripps - he's walking, talking and eating and out of ICU.

Former AFL player Jason Cripps says he is grateful to be "alive and breathing" after collapsing and almost dying while on a run.

Cripps, now Port Adelaide's list manager, told Channel Seven news on Saturday night that it was an illness from his children's school that led to him collapsing when in Perth a fortnight ago.

"It looks as if I had some sort of illness just before I went for a run. I went for a run, it weakened the heart and I collapsed," he said.

Cripps was taken to hospital amid fears for his life.

"Luckily, I had a couple of guys with me who could do CPR. I got to the hospital and had a defibrillator put in a couple of days ago," he said.

Cripps’ heart was finally beating again but the obstacles were still stacked up against him.

Wife Penny as well as former teammate Justin Peckett and best mate Daniel Healy flew to be by his bedside.

But pneumonia complicated attempts to bring him out of an induced coma early, with friends and family aware there were few certainties even if that procedure was successful.

“It was pretty scary for my wife and my close friends who flew over.

“They sat at my bedside for four days not knowing how I was going to come out of that coma. They didn’t know if there was going to be any brain damage because of the lack of oxygen to the brain so those four days were pretty scary for everyone sitting there and not knowing how I would come out.

“Penny said I got pneumonia so they put me in some sort of wetsuit thing. I came out of it all right, but I will only know when I get back to work and do some (player) contracts and add a few extra zeros.”

That Cripps can joke about his recovery so quickly is something of a medical marvel.
It’s funny, a mate of mine Sam Cranage who I played with at St Kilda is in insurance and I sat down with him three or four months ago and went through my life insurance and income protection.

“I didn’t have a lot of coverage and he said, ‘You are an idiot, you have three young kids,’ but I was young and healthy and thinking, ‘Nothing is going to happen to me’.

“Lucky I have some decent cover now. I have always tried to keep myself fit and healthy since I stopped playing. I train regularly and try to eat the right food.
