I agree.Con Gorozidis wrote:Lyon is a very good coach but an absolutely awful list manager. 4 years at Freo and he hasnt done a single thing about getting a 2nd key fwd. Something just nqr about his brain. Still insists on playing the same side week in week out that always has 5 hacks . Refuses to give Ballard a game. Refuses to recruit a key fwd. And now they are after Leuenberger? WTF. They have 5 rucks on their list and no tall fwds besides Pav. The guy isnt right in the head. Its like he wants to play with one hand tied behind his back. You cant win flags when you cant score over 70 points. But yes - as a game day coach - hes excellent.
He can certainly coach - he can instil a game style within a team and demand its executed but he now has genuine form in carrying hacks in his side and again we see Freo's (whose list Ive genuinely never felt was as strong as what he had with us) bottom end players were shown up by Hawks super skilled team across the park.
Kills lists no doubt I think our re build may have dodged a bullet..

Re: Great coaches!
His failures have made our Septembers tolerable during the rebuild.
Now if only we could hammer the last nail in the coffin by putting his next side out in a prelim say in 2019!

Re: Great coaches!
In 2014 the LOWEST winning margin in nine finals was 93. Average winning score was 110.
Freo never score over 80 points against top 8 sides. How do they expect to win? They only scored 69 against the Swans but were lucky the Swans kicked 7.18. Swans kick 9.16 and they win.

Re: Great coaches!
Watching his press conference he is under real pressure - quoted they 'brought him over to win' and while they have a bit they still fall short. Also mentioned he has 2 years left on a contract.....I don't think he'll see it out and he'll jump ship to a Carlton or somewhere that may start to rise but geez...surely these clubs would be thinking buyer beware????
He is so statistical lyon he treats coachinh like a six sigma analysis exercise but in doing so I thinkhe misses the non tangibles that make great players freaks in being able to pull out a 'toe poke' under enormous pressure situations and in GF's.....they win you games. He doesn't have that balance as Con said, he's all workhorse and little real flair/skill development and ultimately it costs him. To be honest even IF they recruit a big tall gun forward ....Im not sure his slow, defensive strangle game style would get the best out of them.

Re: Great coaches!
I just realised we only scored 68, 68 & 52 points in our three GFs under Ross.
People say we were 'unlucky' but when you dont score you always leave the door open.
Add to that:
The Collingwood side in 2010 was the youngest Premiership Side in the modern era (1987). Younger even the Baby Bombers of 1993.
We never should have lost to them.
