I would see Bruce as our most important player going forward.

197cm and 94 kg who can move around the ground as he can - and has the ability he has.

We can genuinely play him as a forward or as a back man.

I am not seduced by the stat of 50 goals last season - I am attracted to what he brings to St Kilda as an all round footballer.

Add Carlisle, who, whilst it is said he prefers to play in defence, can also play at both ends of the ground and we have excellent flexibility.

Now for Mc Cartin and Goddard to deliver - plus Hickey and Longer to continue their development - and to add one further genuine KPP who can play both back and forward and we have the core to add the mid field likes of Freeman, Billings, Acres and Dunstan too - plus the established Armitage and Steven.

What we do need is mid sized and small defenders because we lack in this area - totally!

I think we can just about write off Shenton, Wright and Murdoch but hopefully McKenzie, White and Rice can slot into those roles.

Call me slow, I may have missed the announcement but my daughter tells me Josh has signed for three years !

This is a really important signing for us. Not just because he is a great player and versatile but that he sees us as the future !
Gotta be happy with that.

someone who suggests they know posted earlier in this thread it was 4- But we await announcement- as a couple of us surmised - they may be waiting for the ' celebration' of the last couple of weeks- to spread the good news.

BTW nice pic on Josh's instagram of him with Plugger and Molly

Maclure was on Talking footy and again suggested 4-5 year deal-- apparently courted by Essendon and Fremantle.

Seems to be 4 year deal for less money than both Essendon and Fremantle offered him

You sound superstitious. Mind you, he could be superstitious about his hair, a la G-Train with his mullet.

Still, with virtually his whole footy career ahead of him, if he was to go the route of the barbershop he could have a good opportunity to put any superstition to rest.

Re Eli Templeton, hope he can get it together soon. How has he gone since getting dropped to play with Sandy?

Josh Bruce has signed a new four-year contract with St Kilda. Josh Bruce has signed a new four-year contract with St Kilda.
Josh Bruce signs four-year deal, Mitch Brown wins extension, Jack Gunston close — AFL Market Watch

Foxsports.com.au can reveal that Bruce rejected rival offers to sign a new four-year contract that will tie him to the Saints until the end of 2020.

It’s understood that the 23-year-old rejected more lucrative offers to stick with the Saints and he was subject to interest from at least three other clubs — one of those being Fremantle.

Industry sources suggest Bruce will be paid around $500,000 per season.

The left-footer kicked 50 goals from 22 senior games in 2015, his second season at the Saints, after surgery on both shins limited his output to just 10 games as a defender in the year prior.

The Canberra product has already proved to be a steal for the Saints after they traded pick No. 48 to the Giants at the end of 2013 to secure his services.

Bruce, a NSW-ACT zone selection, played 14 games across two seasons at the Giants before requesting a trade in search of greater opportunity.
His signature is another coup for the Saints, who have secured fellow key-position players Paddy McCartin and Hugh Goddard in recent months.

St Kilda is expected to announce Bruce’s re-signing on Thursday morning

Pay Bruce whatever he wants - 500k is a bargain.

Been a long time since a player has come from no where and developed the type of quality that looks to be consistent, agile to game changes and match ups w multiple strings. Can run, can mark one on one, can jump on peoples heads, kicks straight, kicks bags. Got a real belief long term for Bruce.

These are the players that will be the difference in our rebuild. Can rely on high draft picks cos they all don't work out. Need a few gems that develop exponentially if we are going to compete for flags!

Good work to jaxons too with the news a week before!
