Yeah he's come out of the Clarkson academy with a great understanding of zones and how to bring high velocity oppo teams to a grinding halt. Against us I noticed they always had numbers back on the halfback line which was so hard to get through and then ran it forward almost in a line rugby style. But it meant they lacked a forward focus and weren't scoring a lot. But with Boyd and Roughhead coming on they seem to have a good forward focal point now. But I still worry about their ability to score.
.
And I would believe that Bevo and the Dogs Match committee probably agree with you which is why they have targeted Cloke. Boyd has come on, but he still seems to lack marking power. Apart from Cloke the Dogs also regain Crameri for 2017, though Crameri is more of a medium forward.
Redpath is a good tall option for them too, but is injured at present. He had 20 goals from 10 games this year and is quite a good mark.
The Doggies will have a number of forward options for 2017 and will be able to play taller if they want too.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
This flag by Bevo will set a precedent. Bevo is a great manager of young men and was hungry for success, but most importantly he has shown that when it comes to finals that he gets the job done. I think there are some fantastic coaches out there in the suburbs and all they need is opportunities and experience as assistants in the AFL system.
Whether they are in Geelong or Perth or Port Lincoln, we should be on the look out for the next Bevo. Guys that have coached seniors and have won multiple flags don't do it by accident.
In a lot of cases they've been great developers of talent and they've nurtured young blokes that are 17 to 21 years of age and turned them into finals heroes. Bevo has helped turns teens into men. That's what happens in really successful suburban teams.
The coach that has the courage to play 16 and 17 year olds versus more senior players. The coach that supports and mentors young talent knows that a young players can achieve amazing things. The coach that limits his thinking and limits the opportunities that he provides to young talent will always be a mediocre coach in my mind.
What I would love to know is; whether Matt Suckling was 80% right and whether Bevo left him out on purpose. I think Suckling was the only player in the Dogs list that had played in a grand final. Bevo could have sent a very strong message to his young pups. You win this game of footy by playing better than your opponent - and not because of experience.
Apart from his father John Bevo had another connection to the Saints in his motivation
Whilst flicking past the panel/Doco program on Ch 7 last evening they had vision of him speaking of Barks and how he inspired him -having played under him at Saints under 19s in the year when Barks passed away
