A Yabby Jeansism was : Eric Guy is tougher than boarding house steak!
Possibly young members of this site won't even know what a boarding house was/is and the inedible food they dished up to their boarders.

Thanks for posting this BB, I remember Dad telling me about that incident.borderbarry wrote:I am sure others will remember this, but I remember Eric Guy standing at the boundary getting his face stitched by the club doctor, then turning around and running back into play.
Dad worked for the Club from the late 1940's until early 1980's . At the Junction Oval he was the gate attendent between the outer and the members section. He reckoned it was the best job he ever had, was paid to sit there and watch the footy, and at the end of the day the President of the St Kilda Cricket club would give him 2 longnecks to let him into the members area. Was originally a Collingood supporter, but got swept away by the Saints when Killa took over. I remember his stories about When we were coming from behind in a close game, Killa would work the boundary line swinging a towel over his head to rev the crowd up to bring the boys home. s***s me to tears when Essendon claim that honour for Sheedy swinging his jacket and scarf around, so their supporters follow suit. Killa set the pattern years ago.
Rugby League would have to be the stupidest, most moronic and over rated game of all time.

What a f****** ignorant comment.ace wrote:Ditterich in the ruck these days, a 194cm plodder.White Winmar wrote:Geary, Weller and Carlisle. What I'd give for a Carl Ditterich to top this side off. Great ruckman and the equal scariest man in the history of the game. Shares the podium with Lethal, according to no less of an expert than Ex Senior Sergeant Allan Jeans.
They would taunt him as little pee wee.
You obviously never saw him play.
No one was silly enough to taunt him ffs.

Re: Who are our 'enforcers'?
That happened a few times to The Doc. He'd be hit, go to the boundary line, get a few stitches in head from the doctor, a bandage, then go straight back into the fray.saynta wrote:That brings back a memory.borderbarry wrote:I am sure others will remember this, but I remember Eric Guy standing at the boundary getting his face stitched by the club doctor, then turning around and running back into play.
Imagine that being allowed today? So unhygienic to begin with. I suppose in dem, dere days the club doctor didn't even wear surgical gloves.

In our day, we were toof, Loris. We used to drink tea, without milk, or sugar. Or tea. Looxoory!

One name always overlooked in these conversations
The Pup -Jeff Sarau
And in more modern times Rod Keogh
Sarau never took a backward step

John Bonney. Crunched Leigh Matthews on the wing in the 71 GF. Add in Jimmy Reed back in the 60s at Moorabbin got 12 weeks, I think, for cleaning up Barry Davis.

Re: Who are our 'enforcers'?
Was Keough really that tough?
Just a GOP mid who played AFL for ten years... 60% of his games were in the reserves (he won the reserves medal twice though)
Similar to Lazar Vidovic, was never a regular... Outside of a couple of year
He then went down and coached in Tas... Was underwhelming
