Interesting. I see Acres was named in the guts, or ruck-rover. Did he actually play there?

Longer hasn’t had 60 touches all year. SURELY a change this week!?!?
Couldn't get in the best players though, Longer shares the points with Ryder!!!!!
Longer was again hopless

But this week Stonecold cares only about comparing his performance with the opposition ruckman. That is the only criteria to rate Longer this week it seems

Last week of course, he was rated on whether we won or lost, no matter that he was smashed by Gawn

When kreuzer smashes him next week, i guess Stoney will go back to judging him on whether we win... however if we actually lose, there will be some other criteria like whether his haircut is better than the other ruckman's. His haircut is pretty good, should have Kreuzer covered I recon

Was Freeman rested in the last quarter?

Freeman to debut against Carlscum for Clark (rested)

Acres straight in for Wright

Hickey in for Longer

Carlisie in for Irish

Battle another week off

6 goal win

"THIS is the contentious decision that denied Coburg its first win of the VFL season and allowed Sandringham to escape with a draw at the Coburg City Oval on Saturday.

A rookie Coburg trainer running to help injured Lions player Sam Lowson ran across the mark moments before Sandy’s Doulton Langlands kicked for goal and the final siren.

Langlands’ shot fell short from about 46m out.

Coburg thought it had a six-point victory.

But a field umpire about 30m away awarded Langlands a 50m penalty when the first-year Coburg trainer went across the mark.

Footage of the incident shows the trainer was 10m from Langlands, who was only three paces into his approach to goal."

Hopping is the one KPI that keeps getting him senior games
His forward metres gained skipping is off the charts

Freeman to get a shot - he's ready & it's time

To borrow from Kosi and others here who have already used the obvious comment in relation to Darragh- "Yes it is, to be sure , to be sure ".

Presumably it reflects that the Saints had told Sandy that Darragh would be available, then got caught out by the injuries today.

The Saints web site also reflects some confusion, stating that one of the "Outs" from the Dees game was Josh Bruce !
That was not confusion it was concussion.
The club has been suffering from it for a few years now.

'BS. "A lot" usually implies the majority and I think you'd be well aware that the majority view of Saints fans and supporters would have Tom in front of you.

When you say 'the club' that is mainly the senior coach and match committee. Says it all really. If the senior coach was any good he would have us on the verge of getting into the top 8 and he'd have Tom Hickey in the team and Longer out!!

Saints supporters would be better judges because they watch AlLL matches more closely than non Saint supporters and journalists.

No, I am not aware that the majority view of Saints fans would have Tom in front. How would you actually know? Have you done a poll amongst all Saints supporters? And please don't use SS as an example. Maybe it is a majority view amongst your little cliche of "fans".

Have you ever seen genuine Hickey vs Longer in ruck duels at training? I have on several occasions, and that is what the coaching staff, etc are seeing. Longer wins virtually all the time. It is a shame as I would agree Hickey is better around the ground - if he could just provide a better contest in the ruck. In any event, I have heard that Longer is still having trouble with his shoulder, so Hickey may get another try this week. In fact, you could nearly play both this week, with Hickey a target up forward, and some time in ruck.

While Hickey gets a mention, neither he or Freezer named in the best.

VFL: Marshall fires, Acres back

"Rowan Marshall and Blake Acres played critical roles in the Sandringham’s thrilling draw against Coburg.

Several Saints played a key role in salvaging two points against the winless Coburg in a game that almost slipped away from the Zebras on Saturday afternoon.

After a relatively even first half, Aaron Hamill’s side dominated the third quarter but were ultimately unable to do enough damage on the scoreboard, kicking 5.5 for the term.

Despite taking a 32-point lead into the final break, wayward kicking looked to have proved the decisive factor late in the game, when after a four-goal surge from the Lions, the Zebras were staring down the barrel of a six-point deficit.

And it was the rookie Saint Doulton Langlands who bore the responsibility of retrieving any reward for the Zebras.

With the ball was in his hands at the final siren, the 18-year-old converted truly, levelling the scores and sending a wave of relief through the Sandringham camp.

READ: VFL mid-season review

Rowan Marshall was a standout for the Zebras, kicking three goals and taking eight strong marks to firmly make his case for a senior recall.

At 201cm, the 22-year-old’s impressive size and athleticism shapes as an ominous weapon for the Saints if he can continue his strong VFL form.

Blake Acres played his first game back from injury, with continuing groin soreness keeping the budding midfielder sidelined for over two months.

The Western Australian produced a stellar performance on his return to football, amassing a game-high 31 disposals and eight tackles.

Tom Hickey was again influential, dominating the ruck battle as well as showing his worth at ground level, collecting 27 touches and laying five tackles.

Irish forward Ray Connellan posted two straight majors on a day where inaccurate kicking marred the Zebras’ dominance around the ball, while the ever-energetic Jack Lonie picked up 25 touches and laid eight tackles.

Ben Paton returned to his early season form, winning 23 disposals and laying a game-high 10 tackles, proving he’s taken his defensive game to another level.

Sandringham is back home next weekend, hosting the third-placed Cats at 2pm on Sunday 15 July at Trevor Barker Beach Oval."

Coburg 3.2 4.3 6.4 12.7 (79)
Sandringham 3.4 5.7 10.12 11.13 (79)

Goals: Marshall 3, Connellan 2, Noone, Langlands, Answerth, McLean, Lamb, Haidon

Best: Acres, Answerth, Paton, Lonie, Goddard, Marshall
