What did Pav say?

Who cares what Pav says on the Channel 7 broadcast.
Professional broadcasters are paid and trained to sell hope to supporters. Keep them interested. Keep them watching. This is to sell advertising space.
Just how dumb are you junior?

What matters is what Pav thinks and says in PRIVATE.

So unless junior boy here is a very close private friend of Pav - then seriously it is clear who is dumb...And it aint me.

This is literally our best team when all available
Paddy, our 2 current ruckmen not in it.

Maybe in a functioning team, Paddy still has a role, but will never be more than a B grader

Membrey Bruce Armitage
Gresham Battle Long

Acres Dunstan Billings
Marshall Ross Clark

Roberton Carlisle Coffield
Webster Austin White

I/C Rice, Phillips, Sinclair, D Mac

Paddy McCartin - 34 goals from 35 games. 22 years old. Average team.

Charlie Curnow - 51 goals from 40 games. 21 years old. s*** team.

Eric Hipwood - 68 goals from 45 games. 20 years old. s*** team.
Either of those two broke a collarbone or been knocked out 3 times in games?
Dunno.

But maybe they have peripheral vision, awareness and agility and are therefore less likely to get injured?
Or maybe they’ve just been lucky.
Seriously Curly? With all due respect is that what you think? Well maybe you need to objectively watch these other guys go about it to realise that it may be more than luck. McCartin is much slower and so awkward in his general play that, consider for a moment, this is what just might make him more vulnerable to the setbacks he's had.

Paddy needs to go back to the VFL and find some form. I mean real form as well. Big bag form. Paddy's not the sort of forward who contributes a lot when he's not kicking goals. He's not as mobile as Battle or Membrey. He can't ruck like Marshall can. At the moment, Paddy might be the 5th best key forward on our list - before even considering Carlisle.

Given Richo's dogged persistence with things that aren't working, I expect Paddy will play against Carlton in the hopes of running him into some form. Hopefully it works. I've just about given up.

Paddy has never had a clean run. Broken collarbones head knocks and hammers. Even today he rolled a ankle early. Now anyone with any idea will know that an injury like that restricts your movement and mobility. But let’s pot him it’s easier.

There are obviously polarising opinions on Paddy.

I love this forum because we can express these opinions. But let’s not turn this into petty attacks.

Argue the opinion all you want.

Don’t attack the person.

Lay off Paddy. A champ one week, a dud the next on here. We just played a top 4 side and he was up against a good defence. He was our only key forward.

The kid is 22 and played under 50 games. He is getting better and has had a decent year considering his injuries and head clashes from the past. Thd kid tries his guts out and loves the Saints. He will always be a better footballer than 99.9% of us on here.

I don't think I have ever said anything negative about Paddy before on this forum ( apologies if that is wrong ) , hoping he would show something to excite. I do fear it will not happen. I really hope I am wrong, but that hope is fading. There are so many facets of his game where he is found wanting. So many things that need to improve . I wish that it were not so.

Pav already had 80 AFL goals at the age Paddy is at now.

Only 46 goals short I guess....

At 21 Plugger had kicked 117 in a season, won a Brownlow and a Coleman.

Those numbers mean Pav must have been ordinary.

We are comparing players at similar ages or games right?

I think Pav was AA full back at 21 before moving to a wing then key forward.

Comparing Paddy and Pav like comparing Paddy to Roo, not remotely in same class.

I have several.

1. Pav's broadcast opinion may not reflect his private opinion. Broadcasters jobs are to promote the game, entertain and sell advertising. Not tell the truth.

2. McCartin is well well below par for a 22 year old key fwd. If he is going to be the gun people are hoping for there would need to be a dramatic metamorphosis.

Yep. Exactly.

Pav played down back in his early days. And was still a better fwd than Paddy.

The lack of impact by both McCartin and Membrey today was due to selection

The side was unbalanced with one key forward then a mid field size player playing as a key forward (hence a strength being a weakness due to selection)

The same with our defence - tall players do not get shorter hence Dixon getting us in the last

With Longer we could not even look to mix it up by putting him forward and kicking to a height contest - and, due to Longer’s limitations we can not compliment him because when he is on the ground he has to ruck

So that stuffs our balance and forces us to ruck Acres, Battle and McCartin so weakening structure because Longer, if not rucking, is not on the ground

Everett and Lazar complimented each other and could both be on the ground at the same time, Everitt forward and Lazar back to support our defence

They did not have to exclusively ruck to remain on the ground

Same when we had Gardiner and King

Hence my views on selecting Longer

Not only can he not contribute he stuffs our balance and our options

Hickey and Marshall can compliment each other

Granted VFL level against a bottom side but Hickey 28 disposals and Marshall 3 goals

So for 2 weeks in a row Hickey and Marshall have shown they compliment each other

They had nearly 50 disposals between them v Port Melbourne

And today may have replicated that

Get off McCartin’s back and get into the back of our Coach and selectors

They are stuffing us
