Shaun McKernan is set to go marching into St Kilda.


Shaun McKernan is set to join St Kilda on a one-year deal, according to sources close to the situation.

The delisted Essendon big man was also being pursued by Melbourne, who tabled a one-year offer for the forward/ruckman.

However he ultimately preferred the opportunity presented to him by the Saints, where he will provide cover for Paddy Ryder, Rowan Marshall and Max King.

McKernan, 30, spent six seasons each at Adelaide and the Bombers and trained with St Kilda ahead of the rookie draft in late 2014.

McKernan can walk to the Saints as a delisted free agent

I think McKernan is a handy pickup - he has a fantastic pair of hands and lends support to Ryder / Marshall and cost us nothing......tick, tick, tick

Totally agree. Ryan Abbott alas showed he was not up to it. In the final against Tiges we were forced to play Jonathon Marsh and, as wholehearted a performer Jonathon is, Shaun will offer much more both in the forward line and pinch-hitting in the ruck.

Had a great year in 96, think he polled the most Brownlow votes but was suspended.
