What we should be worried about is going into the game with the same or similar flawed line up as we have had and winning comfortably. We'd be papering over the cracks and will be humiliated the next week against Melbourne and be right back where we are now.
The chasm between the top four and the rest is growing. Not sure if we have the capability to close it, but I do know that if we keep going the way we are, we will never do it.
Marshall can't possibly compete against Gawn and Grundy on his own. Owens, or any other small won't cut it as a pinch hitter.
Correct re: Eagles - they are not fit enough to play games out.

So, if I were a selector:

Need a second ruckman - Campbell has been playing well in the reserves - tick
Need to stop opposition defenders racking up dozens of possessions and setting up scoring opportunities - Cordy - tick
Missing Membrey taking a defender and marking at CHB - Sharman to start.
The captain obviously playing injured/other midfielders out of form - Bytel playing well in the reserves - tick
Wood is injured, rest him - Billings has done his time in the reserves - tick.

There is no better time to get them back in the seniors and give them a run than this week on the big ground.
Marshall would play that role and be the 2nd ruck...
That frees up Owens to go on the ball.
Caminiti would make way for Campbell.

Not this time.
Sure, if we go in with the same team on Sunday, don't take our chances, and our forward line fails to operate again, we may only win by 6 goals or something.

But I think we will respond after being stung by the last two weeks, players will come into the side, and playing on the big ground will only exacerbate the Eagles' problems, not temporarily solve them. Their #1 problem is a lack of fitness and match conditioning. That cannot be fixed in seven days.

FWIW I think the larger ground should suit our forward line.

It’s funny, for a year of exploration- we have made very few changes - I believe we have used the least amount of players in the AFL this season.

Ross doesn’t chop and change - I think he could’ve been more experimental at the selection table.

Phillipou should’ve been rested a month ago or more
Should’ve played a couple at Sandy as an out and out mid

And returned for the back part of the season - even as sub a few times.

Bytel definitely played more often

Highmore - both should have played at some point.

Byrnes should be omitted for a run at Sandy

Windhager should have played more.

I just never going into a game expecting to win

I go into games expecting maximum effort and clear understanding of how to play

If everyone plays their role, we should win - if they don’t - we could lose!

Remember- WC have something like 15 premiership players in their 22 - admittedly something is broken there.

But footy is a funny game - things can change quickly

Who will Teflon blame?

The players?? It was the coach 12 months ago… maybe finally he’s got it?!

We are a middling list
Ross has had elite lists and couldn’t win a flag - he sure as s*** isn’t doing much with this list!
Let it go....you win. Youre sooo subtle and clever. Every fecking 2nd post is you trying to bitch about other peoples opinions on the importance of a coach.

We get it. You KNOW coaches are meaningless...

You are literally becoming a boring pest.
Good post and yup it’s “pour Shiite on club/Lyon” every chance “Big Marty” gets….cause he played school footy once..
Ask yourself : when’s the last time Marty cane out abd said “gee really liked what the club are doing here…”
Much easier to throw rocks after the facts and appear like a footy know it all wannabe..😆
Anyway for the good of the forum I shall try refrain from responding further to baiting.

Hmm 🤔

Teflon, we have played finals once in 11 years

Not a lot done right in that period

This season - jury is still out

Lyon is a good coach, always said that

Until he wins a premiership- he is not regarded as better though

Dont get me wrong, Im all for taking the piss...I like to get a few zinger my way...and give them.
If someone has a personal crack at me, I may not like it, but if its witty...what can ya say? Well done.

To be fair Im not fully aware if Big M has taken loads of flack for his stamd and now just cant stop dishing it...some blokes are like that.
But theres a limit. Constantly about one topic. Its brutal.

Have your say, move on. I dont dislike anyone on here. I dont think anyone has wronged me or that their opinion is sh1te. Its a flippin' OPINION FORUM.
So you say your bit, maybe wear some lip, give it back a bit. Have a laugh and move on.

Teflon,

Do you really think I don’t give my opinion until after the fact?

And what exactly do I ‘wannabe’ other than the supporter of a successful club
Am I a ‘wannabe’ because I give an opinion on here? Don’t you do exactly that?! Are you a ‘wannabe??

You remind me of P66
You’re just a contrarian to opinions that oppose the club - until it is obvious those opinions are right - then you flip!

I might be a lot of things - but at least I’m consistent

Milne was not in AA or in elite form at that stage.

Gilbert always started the season well, then faded just before finals, hence why he kept missing out on AA selection.

Kosi was already well past his best due to injury.

In no way, shape or form was Gram even A grade. His last decent year was 2008.

McEvoy was a development prospect at that stage.

Ray, Blake and Gwilt were serviceable players, but GOPs.

Our bottom 6 of the grand final era was one of the worst in the league -

Jones (his one good season was 09. After that, was beaten frequently beaten by his opponent), Mini, Raph, Peake, Eddy and Dawson. That’s a bottom 6 that would have barely got a game in any other lineup.
Hogwash. Your memory must be fading. Why not try Google for ratings on some of the players you’ve slagged

Without Milne we don’t make top 4 in 2010. He single handedly got us over the line in many games while Roo was recovering from ripping his hamstring off the bone and he was a huge contributor all year.

I could go on, but not worth getting into this crap debate
Milne was A grade, no doubt. Hence why I mentioned him as a follower to the top 6 (not sure if you saw my previous post), but I wouldn’t have called him elite. Sorry.
Name 5 elite small forward in the history of the game and try to leave Milne out. Ridiculous. Seriously.

08 - 60 goals
09 - 46 goals
10 - 57 goals
11 - 56 goals
12 - 56 goals

208 games - 574 goals.

Measure anyone else against that and tell me he isn't the measure of elite.
In the entirety of his career, he probably was. But I don’t regard him as elite during the grand final era.

Maybe my definition of elite is different to others, but while I won’t dispute he was A grade during that period, I don’t think in the elite category.

He kicked 103 goals in those two seasons as a small forward

That is elite in that position

Milne is underrated as a player - to do what he did at 175cm as a small forward was unbelievable.

My good friend, they lose by 170 point to Sydney Gooses. We make win over Gooses in Sydney. How do mighty Saints lose to Western Coast? Maybe they miss flight? I would not worry.

Milne was on fire during those years. Very consistent over 208 games/12 seasons. You are entitled to your opinion but I'm wondering who you thought was an elite small forward at the time?
