Drunk St Kilda player picked up and the coppers a racist

Oh for goodness sakes

Nobody suggested that copper are racists.

I knew as soon as I mentioned Lovett being drunk in St.Kilda and his aboriginality people would come out yelling about racism

I also mentioned that it is a FACT that Lovett has form with alcohol.

Unless you live under a rock, it is well known that aboriginal people, alcohol, and coppers dont mix.

Knowing that, and the fact that he has had alcohol issues in the past and is trying to restart his career at a new club, one has to wonder why he was at St.Kilda at 6.00 am pissed enough to be noticed by the coppers in the first place.

Bloody fool who better pull his bloody head in and shape up quick bloody smart

Correct.....whilst theres been a hint of that elswhere in the thread (not by you JB) the point i was trying to make is that Saints players who misbehave in public are cut a lot more slack on here than players from other sides..and whilst its natural I guess we have to remember that it cant be compared with always seeing the good in your own kids (as someone tried to write it off as once before)

Misbehaviour is misbehaviour no matter what jumper they wear from Apr-Sept....and I totally agree with you JB, its pull your head in time

I have great faith in our leadership group to give him the spray it sounds like he's overdue for

Are the boys back at training yet?

Did the rest of the team stay sober during the off season?

Anyone, and I mean ANYONE found in that situation at 6.15am is asking for trouble.

For mine, not good enough for a professional athlete, made worse because he is now one of ours

We cannot and should not condem the coppers in this case as it appears that they were just doing their job !!
What is even sdder Eastern is that he was, it sounds like, alone. he had no one to put him in a cab and take him home.......a lot of people i know (not athletes but professionals with a lot to loose) do silly things like that, but they mostly have friend with them who put protective wings around them........

I agree. Most of us have been in a position where we've had way too much to drink, but how often is it that we're in a public place on our own?? Also more often than not if the person is coherent, the coppers will try and escort the person home if there is someone who can take care of him/her rather than force the coppers to babysit them. He either has no real mates, or was so dangerously drunk that he needed to be monitored in a cell, or was aggressive and it wasn't appropriate for him to be taken anywhere other than a cell. Any way you look at it, pretty sad for a professional athlete earning 500k a year

Fairly good assumption that no other Saints players spent the night in a prison cell during this off season thus far.

You can debate against that all you like with someone who is stupid enough to do so.

He has left the security of his former "friends" at Essendon and has yet to join his new friends at St Kilda.

Let's hope his new friends show him the right way and keep him out of further trouble.

Not sure you can lump this with the saints players Ace. In my opinion it has to come from the individual. Saints can set an example, can tell him what is expected of him, but really the rest is up to him. The most concerning thing for me is that I would have thought he'd be trying to prove to everyone he's a changed person, regardless of whether training has started or not. Hopefully this is the jolt that snaps him out of his stupidity.

I don't know what to think anymore :?

Luke Ball - A well regarded young man, sensible, good work ethics, great leader, courageous, kept out of trouble.

Lovett - Troubled young man, not sure, not sure, probably not, not sure, umm?

Used to think the first of the above was the kind of player you put your support behind, someone that would not let you down....

Yet the second of the two, will probably be playing for the club next year, wearing the jumper, contributing to our winning score.

Yes. It's the known quantity versus the unknown quantity.

IMHO

Ball is serviceable and a workhorse at his best but not a matchwinner.

Lovett is unpredictable, can break the lines and can be a matchwinner.

Ross has rolled the dice and time will tell.

A minor concern.

But if we're smart, this is a good opportunity for the leadership group to call him in explain that's not how we do things at St Kilda.

He was always going to be a risky bet, but one that the club thought was worth taking.

The optimist in me says that it's better for him to have to get his arse kicked now instead of during the season.

Until we have an administration that demands success and a playing group that bleeds for the guernsey, St. Kilda will just be a sh*tty football club.

Drunk in a public place. During the off season. In his own time. Was not causing any harm to others or damage to property (from the report that is). Was not driving or operating a vehicle at the time. Put into a holding cell and released with no incident. Will probably get a fine.

I honestly dont have a massive issue with this at all. Public drunkeness is one of the biggest BS laws around IMHO. Ive been pissed in public loads of times (in my younger days of course) and never been picked up at all.

It seems the the man was not hassling anyone causing any harm or damage but was simply walking (probably going home) after a night out.

Not an issue yet but the coaches/other players should make his first few weeks of training very physically hard IMHO to get his head right so this doesnt happen during the season when it will be a problem.

The only disapointing thing is he didnt have someone with him to put him in a cab or give him a lift home.

Exactly..

Would be far more concerning if it happened the Sat before Round 1...but atm hes a St Kilda player pretty much in name only. Has hardly set foot in the place

Would love to be a fly on the wall when he fronts the leadership group 8-)
