Re: Moderators/ Suggestions
Anyone else think there's a delicious irony in the fact that a thread about new mods has descended into a typical SS slanging match? How delightlful....carry on chaps....

Anyone who thinks a Mod is supposed to be a "moral" gatekeeper, probably shouldn't be a mod.dragit wrote:I am not someone who is easily offended, so perhaps shouldn't be the moral gatekeeper on here

You sort of don't give us much option but to notice you. Perhaps if we posted on an internet forum from sun up to sun down you'd notice us too? Unfortunately it appears the rest of don't have the time.plugger66 wrote:Really I am flattered people seem to think of me all the time but to tell you the truth I dont think about any of you. I mentioned you as proof that you can be on the forum 'all the time'. You know, as a joke, as in some losers are on here 'all the time'. You're right to be flattered.

I would have thought that those responsible for locking threads and banning posters would have some kind of moral compass, who else decides what is okay and what is stepping over the line?
At any rate, I acknowledged that I wouldn't be any good, so I am not putting up my hand…

No-one is issued a compass and moderating has nothing to do with morals - it's about adhering to the set standards of the site and enforcing the rules by which the place runs. Morals have nothing to do with it.

Re: Moderators/ Suggestions
Well I think the 'rules' are pretty broad, don't be mean to each other... Etc
You still need someone who can make a judgment on what is acceptable or not.

What if this is the only internet site i am on? its funny but I have time to work and see mates and have a few drinks and go out and be involved in a local footy club but I am on her from sun up till sun down. Amazing stuff considering i dont use my phone to get on this site. Also have a friend that I have to look after for about 2 hours a day. Anyway i am flattered.
Re: Moderators/ Suggestions
Just thought Id chuck my 5c worth in as an ex-mod around these parts..just a couple of thoughts..
1 I agree with the OP. Mods dont have to be here every minute of the day..but surely should be people who are interested enough in the Forum to have the motivation to swing past and check the place out most days..even just as a fan not a mod. If its a chore to log on you prolly shouldnt be doing it.
2. Yep..need to upgrade the tech side of things. matrix mentioned the True Sainters Forum. Its smaller, less members and therefore less angst..but also the mods there love the place and spend a lot of time and effort into the upkeep. It has Facebook, Twitter and Tapatalk links and also a big Sandy presence.
In the mid and late 2000's Forums such as this were the main and best way for fans to have a collective Saints presence online. They arent now..they have been completely overtaken (for better or worse) by mainly Facebook and Twitter. Standalone forums such as these are seen as a bit daggy. You wont attract loads of new members, especially young ones, the way you might have just a few years ago. TS recognized this and blurred the lines between the Forum and more popular Social Media
So...in short..you need mods who genuinely care about the place and some tech support to give it a huge overhaul. Will go the way of IRC and Bulletin Boards otherwise..

Re: Moderators/ Suggestions
i love all the mods who stay right away from the General Forum.
... we sort our own problems out ,
without shiny badges and puffed out protocols.
and thanx to Kingy for observing and allowing it to WORK.
(as it does) ... half a clue and some balls possibly could also save the Ham Forum ,
but i doubt it.
