The committal hearing has actually started, which is good news for everyone concerned.

Unfortunately the gory details now emerge, but at least this phase will be over soon, one way or another. And from an entirely selfish perspective, the off season is a big bonus ...

It also occurs to me that this is one reason we're not announcing a new coach this week.

Correct.

Was Milne suffering too much due to injury? Not a chance.

Had Milne lost the desire to play enough to forgo the income? Again unlikely.

The only reason I can think of him voluntarily retiring is the pressure due to the court case. But I reckon if he was confident of his innocence he would've wanted to play on.

Jesus mate, that's a pretty huge presumption & I think false.

The biggest factor for Milne retiring was his age/form.

The reason Milne retired was because he was told he couldn't be guaranteed a spot on the list in 2014. Simple as that.

Exactly !
To retire on his own terms looks better than being retired/given the arse by the club .

I find it a little odd that AFL .com are covering this as a headline..-
yes i know it has been an ongoing ' saga'

but how many other players are also under court orders etc and it's not football related- personal issue,

and that TV news are leading their bulletins with this rather than the horor of the typhoon in the Phillipines.

noted that her Mother was also called to the stand.... was she there...- ok I'm being facetious- but the story has gone for some time that the girl ( woman as she was 19 and of age) did not wish to take it further over the years but that her Mother did....

Yes I agree but it's hard to voluntarily give up a $200K a year job to be an ex footballer who doesn't have a well paid other job lined up.

I think he is getting very well paid to play in Bendigo plus other work. Eventually all players have to retire and not all have jobs that get anywhere near what they were previously earning. Think he may have given up at least a 300k job by the way.

it was one of the many anti-watters rumours reported here

That's what I thought sunsaint, and added to my sentiments that he lost the "senior players"

The ONLY reason? Perhaps being 34 years old when next season gets into full swing, realisation that he had lost half a yard of pace this season and perhaps his great mate Lenny signing on for another year - and which 34 year old wuld you pick to stay if one had to go - might have been some only other reasons.

Well he doesnt think he was pushed and I reckon he knows. he retired but it was reluctant like most footballers. Asked his mates and then ecided enough was enough. Well that is what I heard off one of his best mates that he asked. I will trust him. Not known for lying.

It doesn't matter if he was pushed or he retired voluntarily.

His year was awful, it was 100% time to finish up, going on another year would have been ludicrous considering where our list is at.

His year was not awful.

His year was of someone who was a stay-at-home small forward in a team that was not very good anymore.

Therefore the quality of ball was poorer and the opportunities were less.

Therefore??

Poorer output.

None of anyones business. He told me what happened. People can choose to believe me or not. Couldnt give a stuff. Just telling you what I heard. If you have heard other things I hope it off a realiable source but if it is then Milne has told 2 different stories to different people.

Which is possible. Not having a go at Mr Milne but he was in and still is in a messy situation, so it's difficult to spill the real beans to everyone he knows.

Yep, he was pretty bad, it was the same team as the year before when he won back to back AA.

He would have been dropped if he wasn't a senior player… From 2012 his goals halved and he a third of the tackles.

He played 2 or 3 'good' games for the year. The fat lady was hoarse.

If it was the same team as 2012 then we would have been close to making the 8.

We were closer to winning the spoon.

That being stated, if a forward (no matter how good) does not get even a sniff of good delivery, they are stuffed.

Oh unless you are Nick Riewoldt. Then you are just that damn good.

According to the DNA evidence the young lady had been doing quite a bit of entertaining.
