So his highlights reel would have been s*** too then?

They should do a lowlights reel so we can pick the players that make the least mistakes

I never said he was an unknown quality, I said he wouldnt have a great highlights reel. As for the morrish medal Im unsure that means a hell of a lot. many great winners but just as many that have never nbeen seen in the AFL. Still got nothing to do with his highlights reel though.

I never said you said he was an unknown "quantity". I was just making a pretty simple comment that he was a Morrish Medal winner - so it's not like he was plucked from obscurity.

So is he another Bull Murdoch type?

It'd be nice to win a Morrish Medal?

Some of them went on to achieve something...

And some never achieved much at a higher level after winning a Morrish Medal
What's your point?

It would be great but this forum isnt really about how it feels to win certain awards. it would be great to win powerball.

Guessing not too many on here have won a Morrish medal in the TAC Cup.... Or played Elite Seniors or Juniors?

Some would never have kicked a ball in anger?

I think it's a great achievement

Lenny won it, I think Nathan Brown did, Matthew Kruzer, David Rodan....

Others, for instance got drafted and didn't last in the AFL, but have gone back to state or country leagues and dominated senior footy....

Not hopeless footballers, I would think

Ie/ Luke Shakleton played VFL seniors for Tassie, then after has been a dominant Burnie Docker in the statewide league for many years.... Not sure he's achieved nothing in footy.... He gets around a thousand bucks a weekend for his trouble...

As i said interesting but again nothing to do with the topic at hand. Anyone who plays one game of AFL footy also has achieved something. Have no idea what your point is at all though. Who are you actually writing to. Could you quote so we can work out if you even have a point.

Still waiting for the poster to explain his point in posting the 'Morrish medal' point.

What could that possibly have to do with anything?
BigMart wrote:I think it's a great achievement
Sure. So is sleeping with three different girls in one weekend, but that didn't make me any more likely to succeed in AFL.
BigMart wrote:Others, for instance got drafted and didn't last in the AFL, but have gone back to state or country leagues and dominated senior footy....
Right. So what you're saying is that Morrish Medal winners are no certainty to succeed in the AFL - which after all is what people on here care about.

Most Morrish Medal Winners don't go on to have AFL careers. Here's the last few years. How's the strike rate?

2013: Jacob Chisari - not drafted
2013: Ben Cavarra - not drafted
2013: George Cameron - not drafted
2013: Josh Scott - not drafted
2012: Nick Graham - drafted by Carlton, two games in his first year
2011: Alex Benbow - not drafted
2010: Dyson Heppell - looking good for Essendon
2010: Jackson Sketcher - not drafted
2009: Anton Woods - not drafted
2008: Jarryd Blair - looking good for Collingwood
2008: Farran Priest - not drafted
2007: Matthew Kreuzer - looking good for Carlton
2006: Fortunato Caruso - not drafted
2005: Fortunato Caruso
2004: Matthew Bate - played 102 games for Melbourne
2003: Mungara Brown - not drafted
2002: Luke Shackleton - played 1 game for Collingwood
2001: David Rodan - played 185 games for Richmond, Port and Melbourne
2000: David Rodan
1999: Matthew Stolarczyk - not drafted

Successes: Heppell, Blair, Kreuzer, Rodan, Bate
Failures: Benbow, Sketcher, Woods, Priest, Caruso, Brown, Shackleton, Stolarczyk

That's a majority who have failed, and the jury's still out on Chisari, Cavarra, Scott, Cameron and Graham - safe to say it's going to be hard for the four of them who aren't on AFL lists to have a good AFL career.

Not sure why you're arguing this? The Morrish Medal isn't a good predictor of AFL ability. That's just the way it is.

Found this when googling our future captain Luke Dunstan. Looks like the pre-draft assessment was absolutely spot on.
