He's topped up with old hacks like Sylvia to try and grab a flag.
But there's no new young talent coming through.

Would you get your manager to act in good faith negotiations with your current employer halfway through your existing contract - your agent even getting as far as agreeing on principle to a relatively lucrative extension which just needed to be signed off on - all the while secretly negotiating with your employer's industry rival to jump ship via a contractual loophole? Legally defensible but morally and ethically reprehensible any way you spin it...st_Trav_ofWA wrote: at first i was gutted by the whole lyon thing but over time and on reflection i can see why he did what he did and honestly i cant say i wouldnt do the same if i was in the same position professionally ...
Thinking back to Lyon's rhetoric on The Bubble and the 'us against them' mentality he tried so hard to forge does my head in. I for one totally believed he cared about our club, sucker in hindsight...
What about the three players he "retired" after Swans knocked us out in 2011 Elim when he knew that he'd agreed to leave the club and had no right to make decisions on our list moving forward? What do you reckon their take on it is?
The future's so bright I've got to wear shades...

I think people need to realise that it may have not been RL retiring those guys in retrospect. Maybe ask Bakes or geary about that.

Yeah I'll just give Bakes a call now. If you know something to the contrary why not say it?

Loophole?
The 3 month notice crapola was put in by St Kilda. Do you really think Lyon would have negotiated a 'walk away' clause in his contract to suit him?
It suit St Kilda and it back fired. And let's not call it a loophole, it was a clause.

Re: Suck it up you Lyin buzzard!
exactly ... that precise loop hole was prob one of the main reasons for Lyon to feel threatend about his job at the Saints ... i do honestly believe that Ross loved coaching the saints , he had a very strong relationship with the players and i think was pretty comfortable in the role , the problem was i think the club felt that we had one more shot under Ross in his last year with us so when the season was not a strong one it put some pressure on his spot at the club add to the mix Pelchen getting employed to over see everything Lyon saw the writing on the wall that his role was about to change from that point he had the choice to toe the party line at the saints or look else where (worth noting at that time we were being pretty uncomittal to Ross and we had one very public suitor chasing him in the Dee's .. so from that he was in demand elsewhere to do things his way or he could stay and do things Pelchens way).. the fact Freo came to the party quickly and we ummed and ahhhed for almost a whole season on his role helped make the decision for Ross ...
as for Retiring the boys , i would say that was Pelchen saying that they were not going to be around next year , Ross wrongly felt it would be better to say they had retired rather than have them be delisted as such ... Gardi i think took it well accepting it as that .. Bakes i think took it to heart feeling he still had more to give ... but those decisions were not Ross's to cut those three (he may have agreed with them though)

You do realise he white anted St.Kilda by negotiating with Fremantle on the sly. So the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Lyon lied to St.Kilda that he was going to re-sign with them but them negotiated with Fremantle behind everyones back. That is indisputable and dishonest and certainly unethical. Just ask Leigh Matthews the greatest of them all. That is definetaley a character flaw. His intention was to stitch the club up.

Lyon is a great coach probably a half decent person on face value but can he really be trusted?

im not backing him ... i think its pretty fair to say EVERYONE knows he did the dirty on our club .. the thing of it is after the initial hurt of the situation wore off and as you look deeper into it you can kind of see why he did what he did ...magnifisaint wrote:I'm not sure why you are backing him.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:exactly ... that precise loop hole was prob one of the main reasons for Lyon to feel threatend about his job at the Saints ... i do honestly believe that Ross loved coaching the saints , he had a very strong relationship with the players and i think was pretty comfortable in the role , the problem was i think the club felt that we had one more shot under Ross in his last year with us so when the season was not a strong one it put some pressure on his spot at the club add to the mix Pelchen getting employed to over see everything Lyon saw the writing on the wall that his role was about to change from that point he had the choice to toe the party line at the saints or look else where (worth noting at that time we were being pretty uncomittal to Ross and we had one very public suitor chasing him in the Dee's .. so from that he was in demand elsewhere to do things his way or he could stay and do things Pelchens way).. the fact Freo came to the party quickly and we ummed and ahhhed for almost a whole season on his role helped make the decision for Ross ...

without going into too much detail recently the company i work for went through a major change at the top office this in turn with the current state of the market saw us make over 400 employees redundant in that period of uncertanty of not knowing if i was going to have a job come monday or not ill admit i like most of my peers were scrambling around to have back up plans if the worst happened .. i personally had two options lined up if it went badly one of those options was quiet tempting for me to leave on my own merit.. in the end i kept my job and chose to stay but i can appriciate the similar situation Ross found himself in where for a moment there he had a touch of uncertainty about his job so he was looking for back up plans but unlike my situation Ross found the back up plan offered a better option to him then the place he was currently at ... i can respect that situation i agree he went about it in a poor way that made him look like a slimey double dealing fraud but you know what in the end Ross Lyon looks after Ross Lyon and thats what he did..
he's moved on ... the clubs moved on ... its time for all of us to maybe do the same

\st_Trav_ofWA wrote:stinger , dont take this as an attack but for one of our more senior posters on here who comes from a professional background you do have some petty childish veiws on things.... We love the club cause we choose our club to be a big part of who we are .. Lyon is an employee of the club he is at .. his loyalty and his love is for his family ... im sorry i love working for the company i work for and i give my all for that company but if i start to feel unsecure in my job im going to be looking for other options if those other options turn out to suit me better and my family better im sorry but im going to go with that option ... coaching is a ruthless game 99.99% of coaches get sacked without a second thought about loyalty to the coach so in the end you can only ever look after yourself ... Ross gave 100% to the club while he was with our club .. he left in a terrible way (aand im sure he wishes it was done better) but he is still a man of integrity he is just more loyal to his famliy then he was to his employer
man of integrity...?...you have to be kidding....he's nothing more than a double dealing asswipe...imho...and nothing you can and probably will say ..is going to change my view on him....really dislike the man and hope he never achieves success with freo.....he cost us two flage....and enough of the personal insults please.....

Did not "retire" any players without their knowledge!
