Well many may think that is a great deal. But I am not one of them.

But I am a Stanley fan who believes that if he gets a midfield that can actually pass the ball, that he will blossom. Particularly as he is at the right age now. I was hoping that it would be for our new young midfield...rather than for Cats.

We are likely to give them also a lower pick we won't use to sweeten the deal.
Stanley played 2 good games in 2014.
Was playing at Sandringham mid year.
Unlikely to trade pick #1, so we will enter the draft period with picks #1,21,22 and 41.

Completely understand this trade. Thought he may have gone to Port Adelaide together with Milera. I am guessing this is part of a bigger plan which I hope will secure us Wright in the draft which is a much better replacement (albeit needs development) for Stanley. By the way, I think Stanley is going to be a good player, better than GOP, and that is why we can get pick 21. Got to trade value to get high draft picks.

They already have the Tomahawk and Mitch Clark.
Surprised given that they already have Clark.

They have also over recent years completely changed their staregy with the recruitment of recycled players.

We're they once proud that their team was all home grown?
they desperatly want to jag another flag or two in the next three years under Bomber the feeling was Geelong were a geelong built team home grwon and developed team , the rise of Hawthorn with their recycled players has made the Cats think they can do the same ... as it stands in this period from 2000 til today the Lions Cats and Hawks all have three flags with hawthorn looking like they will again be in the mix for their forth Geelong dont want to see that happen for the last 6 years its been all about that super team over in Geelong it quickly gets replaced by that super team in Hawthorn

Get the deal done!!
Agreed.

My reading would be this

If we trade Stanley for #21

We trade #1 for #4 and #7 from GWS

That gives us 4,7,21,22

1 - GWS - Petracca
2 - Melb - Brayshaw
3 - Melb - McCartin/Wright
4 - Stk - McCartin/Wright

7 - mid

21 -tall slider
22- mid slider
4 = Peter Wright = ruck forward type = similar to Stanley

Its pretty much done.
I wouldn't be cancelling any memberships over Rhys Stanley leaving for goodness sake.
We now will have 3 picks in the top 23.
Pettracca will have you thinking about cancelling your membership I promise you!

Someone on trade radio saying 21 + Taylor Hunt.
So basically pick 21.

Which means 1 for McCartin or Wright since Stanley is being shipped off.

Any truth in that it could also involve Taylor Hunt coming the other way?

i.e. - Stanley & 60 for Hunt & 21?

If we stick with Petracca then we can trade Armo for 12?

Do we really need Armo, Dunstan and Petracca?

Stick with Petracca and Dunstan and then look for an outside gun with 12. Ahern or Cockatoo for instance. Add Steven and Acres to that and its a quality mix of 5 young mid-fielders.....

Forget Taylor Hunt.

We dont want more fringe players just to top up a trade.

If correct, pick 21 for Stanley + our 4/5th rounder or so, great deal.

He has literally done nothing in his time at the club, barely improved, and every decent game is backed up by 4 rubbish ones.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, Bruce showed more up forward in 1/2 a game than Stanley has showed in his career. A real passion for the contest, urgency and strength..

I like Stanley, seems a lovely young man, just not very good at football. Really think Geelong are starting to show some terrible signs, which I guess you can do with 3 flags in the back pocket.. But their time is done IMO..

Thank you Jaxons for the info.

Yep certainly seems likely. You either shut this sort of thing down 100%, or you dont....

Thanks Jaxons!

Obviously the clubs interested in #1 didnt want to give what we asked for... I am not surprised we traded Rhys would rather him this year than Armo or Steven to give our younger mids more development time.

With Bruce likely to play forward WHO will our 2nd key defender be?

Sorry if you read that incorrectly.
I meant the acquisition of Pettracca will have you rethinking the comment about cancelling memberships.
Pettracca is a gun, and barring some last minute madness, he will be a Saint.
The only way we will trade pick #1 is if the Griffen deal falls over and GWS give us #4 & #7, otherwise we will be keeping #1.

Good. I rate Petracca a lot higher than Wright or McCartin and also believe we need good mids a lot more than good key forwards at present. A good mid is also a lower risk pick.
