You seem a bit Jacked off over this selection.

We needed to get ruckman Michael Knoll but those perpetual pests from the other side of the Lake stole yet another player from us.
Send the rotters to Sydney or are they already there.
Send them to China permanently.

Zed wrote: Wed 29 May 2019 10:22am Once again the AFL have not thought this through. Their intent was to allow clubs to pluck ready made players that could potentially plug an immediate gap in their list caused by a long term injury. Highly unlikely any 19 year olds in the WAFL, VFL or SANFL are going to fill that void. This draft should have had a minimum age of 21 imho.

Weve exploited a loophole and got a kid that wont be even close to AFL standard this year - but may have been on a number of clubs radars for the next draft if he strung together a few solid games in the WAFL later this year.

Hopefully we've pinched one here . Who knows, he could still be developing and we may have another Rowan Marshall type story in a couple of years from now.
Interesting observations Zed. Who knows how quickly the guy will develop by being in an AFL system. Im sure you will call it an inspired pick if he becomes a regular next year.

He's been back from injury for one and a half seasons, at what point does he cease to be 'broken'? Not a bad pickup, not going to fix our need for outside pace, but at pick #8 there wasn't much chance of that.
Fair point but it was more that we have got another player who has had a long term injury. Nice to get another who was cherry ripe. Plus I agree with another Poster in here that this drafted is meant to fill an immediate need eg dogs swans. Not taking a punt on someone we may have gotten latere in this year's draft.

We have lots of Jacks, we will soon have two Kings, no need for Queens, and Saintsational has Ace.

Mayo reminds me of a tall skinny forward from WA player who was initially drafted by Nth Melbourne played a few games and was then picked up by Geelong but didnt last long - I cant remember his name. But the thing that was similiar to Mayo is that he too always looked like he was going to break in half at the knees.

Mayo has missed a couple of years with knee injuries and was playing with his knee heavily strapped in the GF. He lacked agility and he is another tall whom struggled when the ball was on the ground. He rucked in the forward line but wouldnt say he was a natural or had a huge leap. His straight line speed, leading patterns and footy smarts looked good. My worry is his core strength looks really fragile, so hopefully the club have done their home work and believe they can build him up.

I also noted the club had him measuring 194cms tall, so he has grown since last years draft camp. Perhaps he still has some more growing to do.
Aaron Black
That's him thanks! Couldnt think of his name for the life of me.

That's 48 on our list now with at least 6 needing to be delisted at season's end.

Have we run out of lockers yet?

A clinic for very sick goal kickers.
First two cures required.
1. Waving the ball from side to side on the run up.
No wonder Parker missed a few.
How does he expect to drop the ball directly over where his boot should come though.
His boot is seeking out the ball and so the kick is off direction.
Long also has this disease.

2. Body swaying from side to side on run up

Look at Tony Lockett's run up on any YouTube clip.. Body calm. Hands still. Ball over his boot. Body hunched to minimise the distance from drop to the boot. Watch the ball all the way to the boot.
A genuine professional goal kicker.
His name is not at the end of the ground for nothing.
He kicked goals and heaps of them.

Jack Mayo is a mid season rookie pick.
We have 42 players on the senior list.
That must be reduced to 37 allowing 3 senior draft picks or rookie upgrades.
A minimum 5 senior listed players will need delisting
McCartin looks certain to be one of those despite being contracted for 2020 - he will be paid out.
Robertson could well be one too but contracted to 2021.
Jack Steven is contracted to 2020

Players with contracts expiring in 2019 playing mostly at Sandringham most at risk.
Armitage, Austin ???, Longer, Rice, White, Rowe and Marsh.
Billings, Brown, Carlisle, Dunstan, Geary, Marshall, Newnes, Savage also need contract extensions.

Mayo becoming a rookie type A means we presently have 5 type A rookies that must come down to 4.
Joyce, Pierce, Langlands & Mayo are at risk but Wilkie looks certain to challenge for a senior listing.
Alabakis is safe for another 2 years as he fills one rookie B slot with two vacant slots.

Listed at 192cm on the club website (rookie list) but I have seen claims of 193cm and 194cm in the media.

If you watch this video

At 0:37 you see that locker 48 is at the end of the row of lockers.
There is no room for any more.
If we gain another rookie type B someone will be changing in the toilets.
