If it became public, it probably would.

I once spent a year in Adelaide, I think it was on a Sunday.

Sorry to say this - but if we are being dragged through courts due to Lovett and paying up to $2M then it is very relevant to our season.
We need this sorted asap!

Myabe we can reopen the Saints Disco for him and he can sleep in the dressing rooms. Would alleviate the wandering down St Kilda streets scenario and he will make training on time.

Old age has dulled the memory... How did the Sacred Cow finish up?

And JLH on the GF has racked up (appropriate use of words?) over 40.

For a while it was an excellent provider of Sacred Milk, but after a while that dried up and it had to be made into sacred hamburgers.

But the barbecue the hamburgers were intended for was no good - Grant Thomas ruined them by underspending on his condiment department and paying no attention to his guest list. Rumour has it Ross Lyon wouldn't be without the choicest cuts of meat from the cow for any meaningful occasion, but many think it only seems that way because he's a far superior chef, which is pleasing.

Agreed. Don't think he'll get anywhere near it tho.

I think I read somewhere that St Kilda were gonna offer a payout equal to the first year of his contract....could have imagined that tho...

Any ideas what has happened at the mediation today?

IMO, it would be just a great result to have this finished, done and dusted before the season kicks off. Even it it does cost a few bob.

Mdeia release- Mediation failure
http://www.saints.com.au/season2009/new ... fault.aspx
St Kilda Media Statement
7:36 PM Fri 12 March, 2010

Sat, Mar 06, 10St Kilda Football Club can confirm that a resolution on the Andrew Lovett matter was not reached today during the AFL coordinated mediation.

Speaking after the mediation today St Kilda Football Club CEO, Michael Nettlefold, had the following to say:

“We entered today’s proceedings with an open mind and in the interests of all at St Kilda Football Club we tried our best to obtain a satisfactory resolution. However, the claim made by Andrew Lovett’s representatives was not something the Club could reasonably agree to.

As our members, sponsors and other stakeholders would expect, we have obtained legal advice from independent expert employment law barristers who advised us that the Club was legally entitled to terminate Andrew Lovett’s employment contract.

Andrew was accused of rape on December 24, 2009. The Club continued providing Andrew with full payment while considering its position and awaiting the outcome of the Victoria Police investigation. During this period the Club also provided Andrew with a comprehensive training program and resources. Andrew was then subsequently charged with rape by Victoria Police on February 15, 2010.

Under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, a Club may dismiss a player where it deems that the player has brought the Club into disrepute. Which in this instance, St Kilda believes to be the case. Further, the Club formed the view that Andrew had also engaged in misconduct which is a ground for termination under his contract of employment.

The main reasons the Club believes that its decision to terminate Lovett’s employment on these grounds is justified, is because of his behaviour on December 23/24, 2009 and his failure to obey specific directions to contact Club officials in this type of situation.

The Club remains open to ongoing discussions with a view to reaching a reasonable settlement

Good

Lovetts demands are laughable. The club knows it, our legal team knows it. hell even Lovetts team probably know it...

If they wont budge why the hell should we?

The Club will be damned by some either way. If they roll over and pay then it will be a flagrant waste of precious funds. Stick to our guns and we are distracting the leadership group from the season ahead as they may well have to get on the stand

not the charge although many will say that

it was the events around his behaviour and actions on the night in question, this was stated at the time of the club rejecting grievance. ( not the alleged charge) but his responses on the night.

his failure to follow directions and course of action.
