Re: Saintsational v St Kilda (Best and Fairest)
You'd have to guess Dunstan's motivation to play well in 5 games this season was a last gasp attempt to save his AFL career.
The big question will be can Dunstan harness that motivation consistently to sustain high performances at another club. It's usually hard to maintain the rage if anger is your motivation.

Got any proof?The_Dud wrote: ↑Mon 20 Sep 2021 3:08pm I'll say it again, as many have said over and over and over again.
We're not talking about 2017, or 2019, or his career, or his career, or his career, or his career.
We're talking about recent performances, relevant performances, we're talking about 2021.
Do I need to repeat it again?
Dunstan outperformed Seb in 2021 only playing half the games. If Duntsan had been given the same equal opportunity as Seb this would be even more evident (if not already).
What 'role' didn't he perform? This sounds more like a coaching issue than player one. Let's not forget the coaches went into the season with a cross against his name, I'm sure confirmation bias came into it every time he did even the slightest thing 'wrong'.
Anyone know how many B&F votes Dunstan got? I'll eat my hat if he didn't average more per game than Seb, as painful as this would have been for the coaches.
The rest of the AFL are laughing at us for letting him go, and rightfully so.

Interestingly the coaches hated him so much they gave him votes in 4 games.
But what would they know? - they're deliberately sabotaging the Club by getting rid of our second best player.

He hasn't been delisted for f***'s sake...yet.The_Dud wrote: ↑Mon 20 Sep 2021 2:48pm Quite funny how some people are happy with a bloke who consistently plays average games, but not one who plays half average and half great games!
I think it's more to do with them making an early call (not AFL standard!) being made to look silly but still refusing to back down, and are now taking the ridiculous delisting as some sort of win!

Seems like it’s pretty much as I suspected, the coaches had written him off before the first bounce of the season.

You want Dunstan playing out on the wing?
With his running ability - he couldn’t run out of sight on a dark night.
A one dimensional inside mid who was that good he was ultimately dropped
He did have a great month!!! But that was it really.
Maybe look at the opposing teams best players leading up to him being dropped, and you’ll find the reason he was left out.

Luke lost us 2 games in the past 2 years.The_Dud wrote: ↑Mon 20 Sep 2021 9:23pm https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/09/20/ ... eated-him/

Against North last year he allowed Cunningham, his direct opponent, to run amok and win the game for North in one of the most embarrassing losses we have ever experienced.
Ironically Luke received 1 vote in the Brownlow and Cunningham 3 votes.
Once bitten twice shy.
Luke forced his way back in 2021 against the odds by being BOG many times in the reserves and injuries.
Luke played well when he came in.
But history repeats itself in our most important match of the year in 2021.
Luke was appalling against Geelong.
The Geelong midfield had a picnic in our most important game of the year. Menegola and Guthrie BOGs in the Brownlow.
Luke only had to do his role and we win the game. But he did not. It is not about having a bad day. It is also about not allowing your opponent destroy us when having a bad day. Luke is not good enough when it counts.
Twice bitten means you are out the door.

He said he was pissed he got dropped after that shithouse performance.
I was pissed we missed the finals.

Going by that logic why are you not crediting him with single-handedly winning us games when he was BOG in a couple of wins?

How is this a discussion of TBA v Eastern Awards - How about you guys start a Sticky - Ross v Dunstan - and then we can all know what thread to avoid!!!!!!!!

Yes…I suspect this too.The_Dud wrote: ↑Mon 20 Sep 2021 6:41pm There's clearly more going on than what's on the surface, and I think it harks back to the preseason where he was (allegedly) told he will not get a game. Are personal clashes getting in the way of having the best players for our team?
Coaches are human, they like and dislike people just like the rest of us, they make mistakes just like the rest of us. Lyon make a mistake by not playing Ball in the last quarter of the GF and didn't think he was a valuable player. Ball went on to win a GF the next year. Is Lyon above questioning?
Is Ratts (and the rest) above questioning in regards to Dunstan?
Ross is clearly loved and high expectations are set….and he disappoints them..
Dunno about Dunny.. u think that the bar is set pretty low. He’ll get in and have a crack…all that kinda stuff. But the Brownlow vs TB discrepancy is staggering. Has there ever, in the history of the club, been another?
You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Re: Saintsational v St Kilda (Best and Fairest)
You can’t play half a dozen good games and perform well in a B&F
You can in a Brownlow
You could be in the best 6 on the ground for 15 games and not get a Brownlow vote!!!
It’s a different system
B&Fs reward consistently good performances
Brownlow awards great games.
You could get 9 votes in an AFL season and have a poor season overall.
It does seem that these days
When the umpire bounces the ball at the start of the game, he looks around and only notices the 6 players around him!!!

Ahhh - I see where you are confuse - you are thinking there is a different between the Brownlow (Fairest and Best) and the B&F. LOLB.M wrote: ↑Tue 21 Sep 2021 6:32pm You can’t play half a dozen good games and perform well in a B&F

Best stands for BEST - not adequate. Adequate equates to a Participation Award

I think every supporter is pissed that we didn't make the finals but I don't think our season hinged on that one game . Sure it might have got us there but there were so many other games that Luke wasn't even playing in that we coughed up .
