if we are relying on him to be the spoiler against gorillas then perhaps our problems become too numerous to mention. Whether that be key backs with size and speed or carrying players not willing to work hard enough to take their turn...as DMac has ALWAYS done.
DMac and Wood have the size to at least impact a marking pack situation. Amon won’t. While we are one tall KP defender down in our seniors I reckon these 2 have been great when it comes to the contested work down back and they’ve been huge support to Battle, Wilkie and Howard

Unless we can find another KPD at the end of this year I think we need both Wood and DMac playing and I think there’s still some growth with both these guys even though they’ve been in the system for 6-7 years.

Oscar Adams …very likely type for mine .

Give him 12 months further development, good kick , very very good running defensive player , long arms too.

Think the recruiters have done extremely well this year.

Windhager , Owens , KWM , Adams , Peris , Kyle …outstanding.😎with Hayes

Although convinced Allison won’t make it..only negative don’t get them all right.

Agree with this although it is NWM not KWM

Go back further and you can throw in McEvoy, Stanley and Hickey.

If we bring in Amon do we flog off Bytel or someone like him? And watch him tear it up at another club?
Very different type of players - one an outside ball user the other an inside mid.

Hind offered much more $$ and years then we could ( and was in the 2nds 2 weeks ago), Dunstan free agent wanted to leave, McEvoy and Stanley traded when Phelchan strategy was implemented (absolute horror), Newness can t get a game a Carlton consistently , Hickey was terrible at WC but found an environment that suits his personality in Sydney so won on the WC trade.

We lack good ball users - Amon is a good ball user.

Again, if Amon comes to us, we get him for nothing and we have plenty of room in our salary cap.
He is a quality player and we would be mad to pass him up.

Think of me long enough to make a memory.

The thing with good players is that they have to want to choose your club.

With Amon we have a few things going our way:

He (pre-AFL) and his family are all St Kilda diehard fans.

He grew up and played near Moorabbin. His parents still do.

His mum now works at the Saints as the Indigenous Development Manager.

We have a large number of indigenous players.

Now the above does not make him a lock. But it certainly helps.

As a quick and good ball user he would be a good fit for the our team.

The other thing about the McEvoy trade was that it was part of a broader strategy that was flawed from the get go. Moving on senior players for draft picks worked well at Hawthorn in the early 2000s but was horrendous later on when the drafts were heavily compromised by the Suns / Giants introduction.

And the other flaw was the "Big Fish" approach where it was intended to land Free Agents with large salary deals.

The Saints bank salary cap to help with this.

This strategy, which may never have worked anyway, was undermined by new Media Rights Deals that meant all clubs suddenly had increased salary caps, and so all clubs including the target's club had cash to splash. We no longer had a $$$ advantage.

The other problem with Big Fish players is that they just do not just chase $$$ in the main. They look at a clubs chance of being good in finals and local factors.

ie Geelong's location has helped with players like Dangerfield.

It help us that Hill's partner wanted to live near Moorabbin.
