Well selection Day is here..
Well with a few injuries it is pleasing to see that many in the reserves have pushed hard for selection....
In the Mix....
X...CJ, Geary, Fiora, L Fisher.....Ferg as a forward... and even Mini as a possible promotion after a string of consistently good games. Some reports suggest that Fior was used asa tagger..maybe a new role for him if he can beocome a tager that wins his own ball.
Bakes,,,Geary and L Fisher. Fisher is the more experience but Geary has shown that touch of dash and run and so may be looked at if the selection panel wants the defence to be more attacking. Particularly with the poor form of Gram and that Sam Fisher will have to play as a key defender rather than asa running HB.
Roo. Ferg (with a number of good games now)..... and Allen (a bit quieter this week but has several good games. However while he was quiet remember that our mids were dominating and busting out of the centre and in souch games the ball tends to be pumped straight to the FF and past where the CHF is..and Allen was at CHF.).
King is now likekely to come back and that means that Kosi can be played as a permanent forward. McEvoy is alsoa chance, but with King back in that is less likey.
Goose.. Blake would seem to be set fora recall....though the smaller defenders of Geary and LFisher are putting there hands up. If Rocca is back, Blake I think would have the edge.
King King now appears to be almost definate to return. If not we may see McEvoy debut...though from what I have seen of his actual ruckwork he has a lot to learn. His marking and around the ground work have been good though.
Possible ommissions
Well with 4 players now out to injury players being dropped for poor form or just to seek better team structure/balance would now seem less likely.
GTrain. Has been in poor form and opposition teams have been exploiting him by running off him. A factor here is if you look ahead to Sept....is it better to try and develop Allen with some senior games???
Gram Is out of sorts at present...anda full list may have seen him squeezed out. Grammy needs to find some form and quick or he may taste playing for Casey in future weeks.
Raph RL obviously wants him to succeed. But he needs to eliminate some of his poor decisions from his game. With Goose our RL may use him for a third tall Pie forward as RL has often used him for this role when Raph has played this year.

I agree with sRr, Johnson was going for a heads up win ala Ling or Cornes, but just isn't as good at it as those 2 are. It's one thing to have a matchup for the best mid, but some players simply need to be tagged, and I think Dal's one of those.saintsRrising wrote:Though kane was often wide of Dal...and not always on him.
I think that Dal was largely not tagged in the true sense of the word.
Perhaps the decision wasn't made due to form, but I'm optomistic about Dal's output v Collingwood because they don't seem to play a lot of hard tags, and there are very few guys in the AFL who are able to play the Ling or Cornes style shut down... in a normal heads up matchup, I'll back Dal to beat most of his opponents (I'm actually kind of looking forward to a Sewell/Dal matchup later in the year as a bit of a benchmark, as I'm really impressed with Sewell this year). I can tolerate him losing to the elite shut downs as well, it's when the opposition puts a lesser player on him with to sacrafice that players game for Dal's that we unfortunately tend to lose the tradeoff.

This tag Dal / not tag Dal amuses me.BAM! (shhhh) wrote:vacuous space wrote:I don't think the matchups had anything to do with form. Kane Johnson plays on the opposition's best mid every week. When the Saints have the ball and Dal is being close checked with limited possessions, he is being tagged.
When the oppostion has the ball and Dal's opponent is running wild and racking up stats, they played him loose.

So the suggested ins are not bad...and I am more bullish about winning than I was a week back.
We should win the ruck fairly easily.
Good defence.
Mids in reasonable shape.
Just need both Kosi andd the GTrain to pull their finger out....and the whole team to lift in winning contested ball.

'sposed to be a "pleasant" surprize .....this wouldn't be for all LOL!RAPH CLARKE FULL FORWARD.
That will be the most tactically confusing move ever made in AFL history. Mick shithouse will have no idea what do to.
Trust me, R.Clarke - Full Forward.

They'd have to lead with Cameron Wood with Chris Bryan providing backup.starsign wrote:we should be able to press home our ruck advantage through the mid and at stopages ....was gunna say surelly ...but make that "hopefully"
so with Fraser out who are their likely rucks?
Bryan shouldn't be underrated, has played some very good games in the past however is far to inconsistent to hold a permanent spot.
