It seem's pretty damn straight-forward to me....

- A proven gun of the highest order
- A naturally fit & strong / durable body
- Has footy smarts
- Has proven he can deliver on the highest stage of all
- Has lower morals than a sewer rat
- Is on the wrong side of 30
- Is at growing risk to developing soft-tissue injuries as time marches on

So, as a result....
- Use 1st round pick.... Never
- Use 2nd round pick.... Probably not
- Use 3rd round pick.... Yes, in a heartbeat

Will other clubs move before and pick him up with a 2nd round pick, or earlier 3rd round pick than we have??...... who knows, not worth worrying about, adopt a position and let the dice roll, if we get him with a 3rd round pick then fantastic, if not, it's not the end of the world.

Failure cannot succeed in the face of persistence......

Little bit of a bump here.....

Well my arguement is simple.

He's a born leader, forget what happened off the field.

His leadership on the field was second to none, Ben is now a man with a point to prove.

Whoever gets him in the PSD will be better off for doing so.

But then again many people are worried about the old Cliché;

"Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me"

I say give the man a go if we can.

stuff his leadership skills if we get him all we want from him is his playing abillity we have more then enough leaders without baggage to need benny to be a leader , if we get him we would want him to Train and play only no footyshows not media not newspaper artical he has to be just a player if he comes in and is givin super star staus and we put him in the leadership group he will be more likely to revert to his old ways IMO

Believe me, he won't need to be in the leadership group to lead. He's a born leader. He's also an arrogant prick, hence me always hating him, but I'd love him at the Saints. He's good for at least two years, and could prove to be that vital link man and resting half-forward we so desperately need.

One other crucial factor will be that he will be able to nominate contract conditions (e.g. salary/term) going into the National Draft.

This is unusual. Hutchy, did say 1 other player did it in last years national draft (G-train maybe???)...

Therefore, he won't be as cheap as a youndster = salary cap pressure.

But more importantly... It could be very likely that the deciding factor in which club drafts him, is the length of term they agree to contract him.

Would the saints (or other team) give him 2 years, unconditionally?

My opinion, as previously stated, is that St Kilda is in the box seat to 'spin' the situation to address the growing concern of illicit drugs in the community.

With St Kilda's (the suburb) negative image re: drugs on the streets, a pro-active campaign to tackle drug use and promote rehabilitation within the community would be greatly applauded (i hope).

I would love St Kilda to become the most "community-focussed" club.

Not at the asking price.

I'd have neither unless we could get them for the following prices.

Kerr - 2nd round pick + Fringe player: Jones/Fiora/Gwilt/Howard/Allen/Geary (WC picks whoever they like) or 2nd and 4th round picks.

Cousins - Taken 4th round ND pick. (Same pick as we used on Gehrig).

None of this first rounder for Kerr nonsense (well, maybe a late one), let alone two.

Just wondering is Dan Warna an alias for Caroline Wilson.

Always attacking peoples credibility without any real facts to back it up.

Otiman I would take that deal for Kerr in a heart beat, but the problem is so would every other team out there.

too bad west coast would laugh at it
remember Kerr is still contracted next year so they dont HAVE to trade him at all if they dont want to its not like the judd trade where they risk getting nothing for him

Kerr is a genuine elite player and gun who is under contract for 2009 and so cannot enter the PSD.

Now WC may not get their ambit price......but there is no possibility of any deal not including a first round draft pick, or a player that would be it's genuine equivalent.

The Blues would happily give up their first pick for example.

I would be very surprised if Cousins was still there at pick 56+

We took Howard with pick 27!!!!!

If that's the case, it's the right decision for the footy club.

If BC says he'll only go to St Kilda, then teams will pass on him.

Sure they could pick him up and then think they could persuade him.

I'm sure many teams wouldn't just use a pick in hoping that he'd play for them.

If he makes his intentions clear, then teams wouldn't bother.

There will always be a smokey, it's just that now we are sensibly using our Rookie list for that purpose, and not the national draft and main list.

Gwilt and Sweeney should have both been rookie listed.

this might be a lifeline for m. gardiner, who i still think has something to offer as a player.

he's a reformed, clean-living character nowadays, i hear, and what better mentor for cuz than his old mate from west coast days.

word on the street?

after i woke up today i thought 'wouldnt be so much against it'
look who we have had and what they have done etc,
and we have fixed them could be a good chance to get a flag to,

so are we the only club who has spoken to him?

It seems that we are the only club having "Serious" discussions with him, but that's what i'm gathering personaly from it.

A few of our supporters said they would pack up and leave shop if he was ever a Saints man.

Will be interesting to see their reaction, come what may.

People people people
what is the golden rule at the draft table?
You take the next best available player!

Cant wait till BC pulls on a StKilda jumper next year, carries us up three more ladder spots on his own back,
and Dan Warna and others suffer a crisis in high moral ground

as far as Im concerned I saw the StKilda of the 70-80's and I remember well the social club scourge of those days. To my mind alchohol is still the no.1 enemy of the AFL footballer.
will be interesting to see what pans out
