Gram has many attributes that contribute to our team, however his kicking isn't one of them. Was screaming for him to handball to Dal just before he hit Riewoldt lace out. I shouldn't have been screaming for him to handball though as a top class midfielder running in space should hit a leading forward lace out everytime. Gram does not and needs to work on this.

Would love to see him nailing one of his formerly trademark 55m running goals next week but would love even more for him to hit up leading targets more regularly.

I reckon Grammy is one of the most important players in our team. One of the few who has pace and can carry the ball. As someone said, he's a risk taker who's trying to find a way through the lines. Some times it doesn't come off, but I would hate for him to lose that dare. If the team goes into their shell and plays 'safe' we're stuffed and WON'T beat any of the top teams. WE NEED blokes likes Grammy. Some of his shanks he was under genuine pressure and had no-one at all to kick to. Other times he missed his target and it was a poor kick. (but not as often as some on here are making out)

I'm not sure if he's carrying some sort of groin injury, but he appears to have either lost some timing or depth in his kicking. When he played HBF he would often run through the middle and bomb goals from outside 50. He seems to be having trouble getting his timing with his longest kicks, and often pulls them or slices them.

As for 'dogging' it? He's not our toughest player for sure, but I can't recall him ever completely dogging it though.

Getting the ball into the most damaging players and onwards to out key forwards and two quality smalls

While Gram can be damaging when it works, his disposal is not up to the standards of someone designated in the role he is

We get it into the hands of Joey, Goddard, NDS and Sam Fisher as much as possible however not all will play well all of the time

We are not a quick team (with pace) however we are a quick team when playing well, we handball out of trouble and our long kicking out of the 50 and then back into the corridor giving our forwards as much space as possible is a major plus. Not many sides have the ability to clear the opposition 50 at pace either use the corridor directly from the back 50 or use the wings and then transfer it back into the corridor before the final kick into the 50. We do it well

Ross has us doing what this group should do. He has figured out what they are good at and mouled us into a bloody good unit

Pretty sure those sort of comments only come from hardened ex-players who qualify to make the comments as they've never shirked an issue in their lives...

Never seen him dog it either.

Fair enough but Gram seems to be the one that can get free and run through the guts.

We are not a quick team by pace

We have the ability to move the ball quickly without running too much

You don't need any special knowledge to see when a player has shirked it Iceman.

Well, you might, as the rose-coloured glasses seem to have obscured your vision.

Moods - totally agree with your post.

Monty and Dal are good at run and carry, but Gram is our best run and carry man.
Historically he averages more bounces than anyone.
He is prepared to back himself and reward outweighs the risk.

A couple of years ago he used to always finish off with a precision pass.
That now seems to be lacking.
I'm convinced he is carrying some sort of injury that is impacting his kicking, and that would explain some of those shocker disposals.

If it is a long term injury they are nursing, then he needs to adapt his game a dish off a handball at the end of his runs.

Most of Gram's runs today were great to watch until he realised he had to do something with the ball and completely stuffed up any good work he did.

Also, he wouldn't know a hard ball get if it hit him in the face.

Gram is better than he knows. Maybe another week at Sandy will wake him up.

Further to my last post Gabby Jeans used to say he had some wonderful kicks in the Hawks twos but it was no use bringing them into the seniors because they could not get a kick.

Agreed, potentially he could be as good as any in the league, he breaks lines and runs however he seems to get stage fright when it comes time to dispose of the ball to someone in space

Not at all, I just see him as an integral part of our team and can't think of a specific incident where he has "dogged" it.

Maybe you can direct me to it...

I do think a lot of people here think players dog it when they actually aren't - actually thought Zac did today til I saw the replay, realised it was him or a team mate was gonna die.

But please go on and show me where Gram has.

Who's that, Yabby Jeans's sister?

I can't imagine Yabby ever played for the Hawthorn ressies, let alone got a kick with them.

Sorry what's the third person bullsh*t. Just say "I" FFS.

Grammy = fast, creative line breaker with plenty of flair and yes sometimes misses the target and can take too much time to get rid of it but he's not robinson carusoe there. Has improved on his defensive pressure and does an important job. Thought he gave us plenty today.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Gram was very good today..

With his kicking it should be remembered that he is often running flat out kicking on the run.

His pace and run in the midfield is very imortant to our structure.

It also means that the opposition cannot just try and block Joey.

Kicking could be better...but all in all he was good...and in particular early on when others where missing.
