Delaney has to be kept for 1 more season. Put him on the rookie list if need be. At least he is a genuine KPB, Lee is 3rd tall at best.

Who knows how Carlisle will come back? A year out of the game is a long time, for a guy who's had his fair share of injury trouble, he cant be relied on to play 22 games in 2017.

And Hugh looks like he's pencilling in Round 1, but again, who know what sort form he will find.

Fisher is finished & Dempster has 1 more year left. So why delist a bloke who can fill (although at a much lower level) one of those gaps if required??

I'm sure the Saints can find a half decent backman in one of the local leagues around the country. Even a Jamie Shanahan type for a year or two to give Goddard a chance to develop

That Mitch Brown guy would have been a good pick up

I don't think Lee is any chance to be retained. Given that Fisher may be on his last legs Delaney may hold his spot. Could depend on whether there's any tall defenders available at the end of the year.

I agree with most posters here:

S Fisher gone at the end of the year
T Lee gone - not up to it.
L Delaney- Will be kept for 1 more year as back up due to our lack of depth in Key Position Backmen.
S Dempster- 1 more season

Carlisle is in and H Goddard is out until mid season apparently so for 2017 at present I see:

J Carlisle - first 18
S Dempster- first 18
L Delaney- back up
S Gilbert- back up as KPB
H Goddard ( 2nd half of season)
Rookie Nick Coughlan may be put on the list but he will take time.

We are in definite need of another key defender in this years draft or in free trade at the end of 2016 or 2017.

Dempster might not want to play on - bub on the way and has really been shoring up his after-footy credentials.

Delaney is a handy player to have on our list. I think some Sainters expect every player to be a champion, and if our players were all champions, we would be on top of the ladder, so I would not be too harsh on Delaney.

Delaney is a perfectly acceptable option for the likes of Casboult, Hawkins, Cloke, Jenkins, Dixon and other lumbering giants but is nowhere near athletic enough to play on more mobile and agile forwards. This week he's a very good matchup for Dawes if he plays, but Hogan would run rings around him. I'd be very happy to keep Delaney on as a rookie in 2016, and would love it if we could find an Adams/Collins type from the VFL.

Whoever it was had 7 kicked on him.

It certainly wasn't Delaney

It was Fisher

It's funny
The season before Fisher trounced him the year before holding him to 7 possessions and 1 goal

Any good forward will have their days
It depends on conditions a bit, but mainly cleanliness of mid supply.

i think this might be the end for Delaney. he filled a role whilst on the list. but can you see him staying when we are in desparate need for talls down back and hes been dropped? same goes for tom lee. if they cant get a game now i dont think they ever will. theyve done their bit for the club. Lee was a handy 3rd forward but then fell down the pecking order and kept getting injured when required. Delaney was the FB during a dark time post GF, filled a need and finished in top 10 B&F for a couple seasons i think. Id say the club will keep one on as a rookie (depending on contracts). unless theres a major turnaround in form and they are able to lock down/play on their man competitively then fair enough, at this stage i think its thanks for your services.

Kramer would have said hideous and he'd be right. Delaney was hideous. Feel for the guy though.
