I would argue that 16 of his 20 games this year has already done more damage than a week in the 2s could!Ghost Like wrote: ↑Fri 17 Aug 2018 9:35pmYep! Can be the only reason. On form he should have been gone months ago....but if he was getting the chop from our 15th placed team in the last few rounds his market appeal would be diminished somewhat I would think.
Just a thought...

I understand your point Older Saint but ultimately if a wood duck comes knocking, the offer for a playing AFL player should be more than an offer for a playing VFL player. Could mean the difference between a sealed packet of Burger Rings rather than an opened packet.older saint wrote: ↑Sat 18 Aug 2018 10:13amI would argue that 16 of his 20 games this year has already done more damage than a week in the 2s could!Ghost Like wrote: ↑Fri 17 Aug 2018 9:35pmYep! Agree but realistically i think if you got a 3rd round pick you would grab it ( if 12 months ago would have got 2nd round ) .Ghost Like wrote: ↑Sat 18 Aug 2018 10:33amI understand your point Older Saint but ultimately if a wood duck comes knocking, the offer for a playing AFL player should be more than an offer for a playing VFL player. So true & that is my logic on Paddy, whist I do understand why others disagree with me. I think we minimize our losses in a poor decision. A trade may actually be good for both parties. I worry we will ultimately reach our own Jack Watts scenario. Our current list says we can cover moving both on if it means we get back into the 2nd and 3rd draft rounds.

But then you hear Richo saying that all the fans are understanding of the direction the club is heading and what needs to be done.
I can tell you Richo you are living in a fantasy world if you think you’ve got the support of the fans, however I believe the club is starting to realise just what a mess they have got on their hands.
Yep, agree with you there.
This is what was said and I'm not buying it.
http://www.saints.com.au/news/2018-08-1 ... reeman-out
"Alan Richardson this morning addressed Nathan Freeman’s omission from the side that will face Hawthorn on Saturday night for the Blue Ribbon Cup.
The 23-year-old midfielder’s storied drought of senior football was broken when he made his senior debut in Round 20 against the Western Bulldogs, before putting in a serviceable shift against the Bombers a week later.
“He’s actually a little bit stiff, ‘Freeza’,” Richardson said.
“We think his footy has been OK, and we were pretty keen to keep him going if we could.”
The Saints’ senior coach cited the Hawks’ impressive height and the need to counteract their talls with the inclusion of two key defenders in Hugh Goddard and Logan Austin as the reason for the selection decision.
“The reality is that the Hawks are playing a pretty big front half,” Richardson said.
“And it just means that it’s squeezed one of our mids out, and given they have (Isaac) Smith on the wing, (Jaeger) O’Meara and obviously (Tom) Mitchell, we’ve got to make sure strategically that we’ve got really strong match-ups.
“So ‘Freeza’ misses out, but the message to him is that we’re pretty pleased with what he’s done the last couple of weeks … he’s got to make sure that he goes back to the VFL and keeps building his game.”

Re: Freezer omitted WTF??
Even if you believed that for a second, how do newnes and Sinclair stay in the side. Their pressure is ordinary and their ball use this year is abysmal.
Not even an emergency for freeman is poor.
This is as disappointing a year that I can remember and I was around for the 80s.

nothing will improve until Richo goes ...... we just have to wait and hope the damage is not too severe.

Re: Freezer omitted WTF??
damage seems done to me.
We have set ourselves back at least 3 years this year, probably 5.

Re: Freezer omitted WTF??
Freeman doesn't appear to have the explosiveness we need. I would have still preferred him to play.
In response to other comments made in this thread - Richo going will not stop the rot; there's much more to it than that.
A new coach might help somewhat (a tiny amount, perhaps), but "discredit" where it's due ---- It's been our recruiters, year by year, that have been setting us further and further back - that deserve most of the discredit.
As plain as night follows day, we've needed A grade midfielders to match it with the better teams - especially A grade outside midfielders, but what we have recruited instead are multiples of C grade inside midfielders - so we're trying to fit 10 average C grade inside midfielders into 2 or 3 positions.
Good luck competing against the better teams with that!
Where are our Pendleburys, Fyfes, Dangerfields, Sidebottoms, Selwoods, Mitchells, O'mearas, Isaac Smiths, Gary Abletts etc.... realistically we can't compete against these teams - and it mostly boils down to our recruiting. We've been recruiting like headless chickens - and the results have come home to roost.

EXPLOSIVENESS
hmmm its all a relative term
Two rounds ago I was worried about Saads explosive line breaking run
Last night I watched Rioli give Saad a headstart and made him look like a witches hat
you can only dream we have players like that - one day

and whole heartedly agree on the need to obtain A grade midfielders
I smiled and kept well away from a thread earlier this year that Jack Steven was AA

Freeman would have been handy tonight.
Gilbert wasn't at all handy.
