Be hard with Carlisle and Howard playing so well but I am an unashamed Brown supporter.Junction Oval wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 3:07pm A big, bulky guy for Charlie Dixon next week?

Re: Nathan Brown for next Week
Nah. Howard. Dixon is explosive and Howard can go with him. Our biggest issue - as usual - will be for our midfield to compete hard and give cover to the defence. If their mids do as they please - Southby, Dench, Silvagni, Spud won't be able to stop big CharlieJunction Oval wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 3:07pm A big, bulky guy for Charlie Dixon next week?

Re: Nathan Brown for next Week
Liam Jones, the experienced Calrton defender, 'mauled' as Lloydo put it, by Port Adelaide's Charlie Dixon on Saturday, is listed at 198cm (6ft 6in) and 98Kg.
Dougal Howard is 199cm and 95kg, Nathan Brown 196cm (but losing his hair) , and 98kg.
I love Brown, but there is no way Howard will be dropped and the prospect he will punish Port Adelaide for their widely reported 'botch-job' resulting in him coming to us is so tantalizing!
He better be ready for some manhandling though.

Re: Nathan Brown for next Week
Howard just played a blinder for us and so it is no a good time to dampen his enthusiasm, plus Howard is very used to playing in Adelaide.
So he stays for mine. I like above I am a Browny fan. Howard is our future though.
Howard is also a brilliant spoiler.

Re: Nathan Brown for next Week
Can Nate kick goals on the run from 55m?
...anyhoo, that's not why the defenders are picked in the team, but it just reflects Dougall's game sense and football skills. Will only get better as he gains more experience

Re: Nathan Brown for next Week
If we don't hold up their midfield Dixon becomes a real problem whether we have Brown or not. Hopefully Dougal gets a chop out from Carlisle, Wilkie and Coffield.
If Port want to open up the field for Dixon then we may see a shoot out, leaving an opportunity for Hill and Billings to run into some outside form. Beat Port and we may march through August in dangerous form.

Re: Nathan Brown for next Week
Don’t forget Port also have Marshall ( one of the most improved players in the comp) and Westhoff as talks in the forward line
All3 are mobile, King Charlie takes most of his marks on the lead and at the balls highest point. You need more than bulk to beat him
I would play Howard on him, Jake on Westhoff (the slowest of the 3) and 44 on Marshall
Geary needs to go to DBJ there best attacking defender, Ross to Boak and away we go

Re: Nathan Brown for next Week
Brown would be a terrific match up on Dixon, maybe even the best option, but Our back six is looking settled and starting to gel as a unit. Probably best to not fix what aint broken. Also think Howard will be up and about like last Monday in Adelaide.

Re: Nathan Brown for next Week
Given we don't receive a bye until after Round 12, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few rested this week, especially with the short break and double travel.
I doubt we'll rest players against Sydney or Gold Coast as they are matches we must win.
Carlisle or Wilkie could be rested for Brown this week, as I agree he is the best match up for Dixon on our list.

Re: Nathan Brown for next Week
That makes sense until you consider that Brown was played as s forward in the last scratch match. But then you think, I doubt Brown forgets how to defend in one week. So, do we rest King, put Dougal forward just to really piss Port off and put the Gorilla on Dixon.Beno88 wrote: ↑Wed 22 Jul 2020 11:24am Given we don't receive a bye until after Round 12, I wouldn't be surprised to see a few rested this week, especially with the short break and double travel.

It's all just speculation but I'm excited have the flexibility to speculate on these things.

Howard’s intel would be more useful.

Re: Nathan Brown for next Week
As much as I rate Nathan Brown, there's no way that Howard will miss this game against his old club, that would be crazy as he'll be really fired up to show Hinkley how good a defender he really is.
He has played consistently well in all 7 games so far, and the St Kilda defence has been a real highlight this year. They will certainly be under severe pressure though against Port's outstanding forward line, possibly the best in the comp right now.

Re: Nathan Brown for next Week
The AFL should allow much longer benches while cramming games so experienced players like Brown can come in and play a quarter or until he blows up which probably could be less than a quarter in reality. Without that flexibility I would only pick Browny if we were tanking. 8 to 10 man benches would be my suggestion and then even players like Bytel could get a game.

I think Austin will be of benefit when we get into that group of matches played close together in a couple of weeks.

Absolutely no chance he will play again.Junction Oval wrote: ↑Tue 21 Jul 2020 3:07pm A big, bulky guy for Charlie Dixon next week?

He has left the hub.
The team will remain locked out of Victoria until October.
Which means he will be locked out of the team permanently.
The club is already planning how they "will recognise his contribution appropriately".
