Watch how Tigers play Cats....

Post: # 1868717Post Teflon »

They play like us a bit Tigers...,like to move it quickly but they don’t bomb into forward 50 they don’t allow Harry Taylor and co easy pick off marks so they can set up from defence...
They don’t allow Hawkins a paddock in defence 1 out ....

We do which is why imo we match up better against Tigers than we do Cats/Pies cause every time we play those 2 sides we play into their game style, go into our shell

Oh....Tigers also have players who use it well by foot...

Cat’s look pressured....not as calm as usual they may still come back but there’s a way to play them here..

Watched the second quarter. Yes, noticed that Geelong looked pressured. Amazing how a team that just smacked us like puppies are miskicking, kicking into the man on the mark, out on the fulls, missed set shots. And to see that Richmond tall forward - the one they got from Gold Coast, put his knee into Duncan's back off the ball when Duncan was on the ground - being like bullies too.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

See how they stopped Cats coming inside to corridor?? Very astute and it forces Geelong slow along the boundary
It helps having a Martin who just comes out and dominates..,
But they clearly trouble Cats
They also DO NOT bomb into forward 50 they don’t always look for Lynch or Riewoldt and lower their eyes and take the best option
Hawkins has been mugged tonight
This is how it can be done...,,just hope if sides are working us out we are smart enough to be pulling them apart also.
I hate Cats tbh so enjoying this.

Cats have always looked susceptible to pressure and if Mongo doesn't fire they struggle

All teams susceptible to pressure it’s how you do it that matters
If we allow mongo to get 1 out with our defence we are stuffed every time - he monstered Carlisle last time
Also see how chaotic and unpredictable Tigers entry into 50 is??? They don’t bomb long to the top of the square asking a skinny 15 game kid to take pack hangers while allowing defenders like Taylor etc 3rd man up for easy marks ..,
We’ve got to learn and fix the stuff they must know they’re AFL pros ffs
I can clearly see why we match up ok against Tigers and not Cats but we need to be able to adjust

You could argue that all teams bomb it - even Richmond but they usually don't stuff around getting the ball into their F50 and therefore it doesn't allow the opposition to get organised - they also have a couple of forwards who can take regular pack marks

I wish we would take more risks through the centre corridor unfortunately at the moment we are just playing predictable down the wing - going through the centre of the ground should open up angles into the forwardline ..... if we don't turn it over of course

What I loved about the tiges was that they didn't allow the cats to get into any sort of rhythm, ie allow them to just kick the ball around at will and pick their way up the ground. Every kick was pressured. That inferred pressure plays on a team and eventually they start to miskick. The tiges just swarm the opposition. I love how they play tbh. Can't stand their supporters, but they are brilliantly coached and everyone knows exactly what they are doing. Cats have looked unbeatable for weeks, incredible to watch really.

No Richmond don’t bomb chaotic entry is their brand but equally I saw numerous occasions last night where a lead up option 40-50 from goal was hit up.
We bomb it 15-20 out to a pack religiously
Cats don’t like the way Tigers play cause they can do that too but also then hit a lead up target 45 out
They have variety
Tigers also not afraid to just mongrel the ball forward in at ground level......that throws Cats tall defenders right off as there are less easy intercept marks to pick off and their smalls get to work
We do same dumb entry time after time
Very big difference on how they enter and yes they have talls who can take a mark but we give ours zero chance Tigers spread Cats defenders our predictable entry pattern plays into their hands

Spot on ......there’s no point having our tall forwards trying to outmark each other and bringing the extra defenders or ruckman into the contest ......spread the f*** out

Tigs taking marks 3vs2. I think it's me that doesn't understand the blocking rule. Two defenders holding off two forwards trying to get to the fall while the free takes an uncontested mark. Happens all over the ground. At what point can you stop an opponent's run?
