Essendon Scratch match

Post: # 1869298Post on the outer »

https://www.saints.com.au/news/813117/d ... st-bombers

Just about every player not currently in the main side gets a mention.

“ At a glance:

Jimmy Webster and Luke Dunstan enjoyed successful returns to competitive football in a scratch match against Essendon after extended stints on the sidelines through injury.

Jonathon Marsh (five goals) and Logan Austin (four) led the Saints' forward line in the wet conditions.

Meanwhile, Dan Hannebery is mounting his case to make an immediate return to the senior line-up.”

Bytel and Byrnes need as many games pumped into them next year as possible. Like the sound of Bell and Connolly. LC kicking is supposed to be elite and can use both feet. What this team is crying out for. Austin is the surprise 4 goals. Stick him at FF and see what happens?

Membrey Austin Lonie/Marshall rotating (slight size difference)
Why not?

Interesting that McGlynn mentioned Jake's attitude twice, its obviously been an issue.

Very interesting.

Heard that guy Petracca had a pretty suspect attitude too. Glad we dodged that bullet.

Yeah, thank heavens we tested him properly. Due diligence, blah blah blah.

Backline consisting of Jake Carlisle, Dylan Roberton, Shane Savage, Daniel McKenzie & Jimmy Webster with Austin & Clavarino either forward or playing for Essendon.

That's Richos starting backline if you add the retire Brown all now playing reserve grade or retired.

I think there was mention of Byrnes and Bytel's "elite" ball use which is a great sign. I somehow think that Marsh would be better value at FF than King right now, but it's probably not going to happen. I would love to give Byrnes a run at half forward in place of Hind- could he do any worse? nah

Claravino was playing on Austin according to the report.

Also, Parker was playing for Essendon.

It would be nice to get a look at some of these guys. Next year now.

Or seeing them in a decent secondary competition.

With all due respect to the unique situation, 5 & 4 to Marsh & Austin respectively in wet conditions doesn’t read for a high quality match.

Also mention of the Saints backs not seeing much ball.

Trying to read between the lines (fraught): Dunstan on verge of selection, possibly Bytel and DMac; Langlands, Byrne and Clavarino need to show Ratts more; Connelly a likely type, Carslisle has no future with Saints; saving Austin for next year (?) Howard and Austin KP defenders in '21, possibly. Webster and Savage support players, no long term roles, cards marked; Marsh too inconsistent within games, probably no future. Bell a good prospect, Abbott good back up ruck, Alabakis needs to improve a lot to be perservered with. Please don't remind me of this precise when it turns out completely wrong.

Yes, between the lines...it is pretty propagandarish ...I noticed this, “Marsh...ground level”.

Worried for Parker.

You're quite brilliant Shane, yeah..terrific!

Hoping some of those mentioned - DMac, Langlands, Dunstan - have improved their disposal skills. Can't carry any more with skip, Kent, Phillips and Ross in the side. Sorry, left out Hill.

Dunstan was said to need work on his F50 entries apparently, in that report. Inaccurate or wrong option?

"His ball use going inside-50 is probably something he needs to work on"

matters little as it was clearly written by someone who has only been at the club for a week

Probably kicked it to a leading forward.
