Re: Tigers v Zebras
Alabakis as a ruckman is about as handy as an ash tray on a motor bike, absolutley hopeless.
Clavarino is disappointing also. He is still all arms and legs like a 17 y/o. He is a good over head mark but absolutely no ground level game.

Re: Tigers v Zebras
Why would they play on a Friday FFS?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

Byrnes looks like he has been in a good paddock.

Hasn’t been able to run for 8 weeks
Needs a month in the VFL to regain full fitness
Would seriously consider Leo Connelly for his outside game and kicking.

He might make Ratten and Hill look a little silly. The kid is no shrinking violet and for a little bloke, actually has a crack.

Re: Tigers v Zebras
I have this memory of Caleb Daniel being outmarked by Jarryd Roughead, Roughy has Daniel on his back like a dad carrying an eight y.o. who's crying 'i'm tired, gimme a piggy back'
2020 was an aberration, when we travelled twice to Adelaide and won both, beat Tigers early, beat our bogey Swans. 2021 we've returned to our old ways. Damn

Re: Tigers v Zebras
Possessions are not everything and can be misleading but considering he has been hamstrung for the past 8 weeks I thought his stats looked good.
Certainly better than Dean Kent on paper who seems like he can’t even find the footy at VFL level
Fingers crossed he can deliver on the promising start

Re: Tigers v Zebras
A number of us are calling for AFL players to be dropped but the reality is we dont have the right players in form to come in. The way the Tigers VFL side played they would be a good match for our AFL side at present. They have a number of kids coming through who are going to be very very good AFL players and who do we have?
Kent did more dumb things than good.
Joyce went ok but got out marked too often.
Byrnes will be ok given time...
Clavarino marked well, but still looks like bambi. Plus he has absolutely no ground level game whatsoever. He is one of those long loose limbed gangly types.
Highmore did some nice things, but is slow and has no upper body strength.
Allison hardly seen, very much a development project.
Conolly he must get touches but didnt notice him.
Alabakis is the worst excuse for a ruckman I have ever seen. I cant see what our recruiters saw in him?
So basically the pool is dry!!!!

Re: Tigers v Zebras
Is that same Caleb Daniel that was monstered by the enormous Jarryn Geary in a one on one marking contest.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know.
When I was a young child, I knew that I knew so much about so much.
Now that I am old and know so much more, I know that I know so much about so little, and so little about so much.

Re: Tigers v Zebras
If this poor recruiting doesn't change soon the club may have to delist it's recruiters and it's list manager.Impatient Sainter wrote: ↑Mon 19 Apr 2021 3:35pm A number of us are calling for AFL players to be dropped but the reality is we dont have the right players in form to come in. The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

Re: Tigers v Zebras
Clavarino and Joyce don't get a gig even when we're undermanned down back. Surely at season's end some of these types will need to be moved on.
The problem is that in this year's draft we have a first round pick followed by a fourth round pick. Not exactly in a great position to be bringing in elite young talent......yet again.

Re: Tigers v Zebras
Do you think we would have played Daniel at HB?
We didn’t even play Nick Hind there and he was drafted as a HB
Caleb would have been stuck in dead mans corner (small forward)
And we’d be calling for his head because he’s too small and not good enough overhead!!!

Re: Tigers v Zebras
Yeah I don’t agree although I can def see it as a Richo move
Caleb was clearly mid field/flanker type. Plainly evident for his highlights and bio
If I as a layman could clearly see it, surely the coaches would too

Playing Port on Saturday. It will be on Kayo, not sure if it’s on Foxtel.

Re: Tigers v Zebras
Hind was clearly a HB
That Ratten only played as a small forward
Daniel has never played midfield in the AFL, his move to HB also only happened a few years into his career at the Dogs

Re: Tigers v Zebras
If I can recall correctly, about the only person on SS who was calling for us to recruit Caleb Daniels in his draft year was Noddy04. Noddy lives in South Australia and had been following Caleb since a junior. His main reason for plumping for Caleb so much. Caleb as small as he was, had been playing against men, not against schoolboys. He was playing in the SAFL, forget now which club it was. He had played that year about 5 - 6 games in the Senior team, the rest had been in their ressies. Most on SS said he was much too small......... hindsight hero’s tend to forget their early posts.
Cooweee Saintbrat!
How is noddy coming along? I know it was touch & go for awhile if he would pull through the massive stroke he suffered. Have you got any info on how he’s progressing? Maybe you can find out this week, as I’m sure you are heading to SA for the P.A. match.
Saintbrat, I saw you on TV behind the goals at the GWS match........... you looked soaked to the skin, the rain poncho you had on didn’t seem to be giving you much protection from the rain squalls. You sure a a dedicated Sainter, you’re at every game regardless of weather conditions and how good or bad the Saints are travelling.
