Confirmed: Butterss board STEPS DOWN

Post: # 467970Post Oh When the Saints »

Rumours rife on BigFooty that Butterss will make an announcement in the next couple of hours that he and his board are stepping aside.

Source is a current board member. Announcement expected in the next couple of hours.

EDIT: Confirmed. See below.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Would obviously save a fair bit of heartache and cash if true. Just checked out the BF post... let's see what turns out.

I can confirm it. They have stepped down. I have just spoken with one of Westaways new proposed board members who had just got a call from Rod telling him he was stepping down.

From FOX SPORTS NEWS

Butterss quits Saints presidency
By Jordan Chong
October 02, 2007 ST Kilda president Rod Butterss and his fellow directors have quit the board of the AFL club. Butterss, as well as fellow directors Glen Casey, Mark Kellett, Andrew Bassat and Ray King, announced in a statement they were standing down.

They were facing a serious challenge by a Greg Westaway-led rival ticket called St Kilda Footy First.

Butterss said he and the board were "not prepared to submit the club to a costly legal battle in the courts which is scheduled to commence tomorrow".

"The resignations take effect immediately to allow the Footy First group the opportunity to outline their plans for success to the members at this Friday night's Trevor Barker awards night," the statement said.

Butterss said a "smooth transition and a stable environment were important to enable the club to focus on the issues that really mattered such as signing sponsors and preparing for the 2008 season".

Butterss had been on the Saints board since 1999 and was elected president in 2001. The 48-year-old was also a former reserves player at the club.

I'm going to try hard not to dance on the man's grave, so to speak, but he has done the right and honorable thing by the club.

For all my thoughts against him, I've got to give him that.

RB will allow FF to address members at the Best and Fairest.....which is very generous of him.

Congrats to going with good grace...

one can look at his short-coming all day and night however with meticulous planning he was able to turn this club around big time

thank you for your efforts

if it wasnt for the public spat between him and gt i suspect most people would still be in favour of rb staying on

I must say that he is leaving with grace.

Best thing for both club and RB

Thankyou to the board for all their hard work over the last 4-7 years

Will he still be going ahead with his legal action about the alcohol & drugs comments?

RB - no comment
