WC to lose draft picks???

Post: # 477391Post saintsRrising »

I read on Bigfooty that if Cousins goes for drugs that WC can lose draft picks as that was part of the AFL deal..

Does anyone know if there is any substance to this????

i disagree with them taking draft picks off

why should they be denied access to something they traded for involving a player that wanted to leave etc

premiership points might be something to look into

but not draft picks - that should be for instances like carlton's

If they did lose their picks what a shocking year for it to happen. They'd end up with nothing for Judd and lose Cousins.

Surely they would only lose their allocated draft picks wouldn't they?

pick 3 was Carltons pick traded to West Coast.

absolutely

AFL considering their options tonight, very high likelihood that West Coast will be punished harshly for this- no matter what the outcome. They will lose draft picks.

Fair chance they'd lose that methinks if the AFL sanction them with the loss of draft picks.

Why?

If that were the case, West Coast could simply trade away all its draft picks and the players received would be "untouchable".

Surely a club could only lose the draft picks it was allocated.

The penalty would make them trade players away to obtain earlier picks.

The punishment is still there.

WCE have traded Judd for picks 3 & 20. They would lose their allocated first round pick (whatever that is). A club should be able to trade for picks. The punishment is that they have lost players.

But if the punishment is the loss of allocated draft picks, you would simply trade away any allocated draft picks in order to mitigate the punishment.

If Cousins ends up on a serious charge (and bearing in mind the AFL have outlined to West Coast what would happen in the event one of their players screws up again), losing players would be the least of their worries.

Let's see if the AFL will actually walk the walk this time. Doesn't matter what they have traded away for imo - that's just bad luck.

Taking the things away that matters most to West Coast (draft picks and premiership points) is THE only way that team will be brought into line. Until then they will just let their players run amok.

You cannot trade away picks you will not receive though. I also think it will be allocated picks that they will lose not others they gain by trading players.

No...you would never receive those draft picks to trade them away.

You would have to trade players away to get draft picks...or take your picks at the end of the draft.

The problem here is that trading has finished.

2008 draft, one would expect.

IMO taking away more than a first round pick would be overkill.

Why wouldn't you receive the picks?

I say premiership points would hurt them the most, put them on more of a backfoot to play home finals - say in the range of 16 pts

Draft picks have too many long term complications and hence would be too harsh based on the actions of certain players.

Cousins has been charged with one count of possession of a prohibited substance, and one count of failing to give a blood test.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

I posted a reply on the above post about the AFL saying that they could strip West Coast of their picks if they got in trouble again.

In other breaking news Carpet Call are expected to become the West Coast Eagles' new sponsors.

A Carpet call spokesman said West Coast and the company were an ideal match as both are pretty good at sweeping things under the rug hoping that no-one notices.......
